Alf Tupper imitating life or vice versa ?

Being a keen runner myself, I was browsing the Surrey AAA homepage for race information, when I came across this Obituary, which has a ring of familiarity about it.

""At the time when Bruce was running, his training and competition had to be fitted around a working week where Saturday working, at least half a day, but some times a full day, was the norm. He was an engineer with Cooper (the world-famous motor racing marque) in Surbiton. The story was told where Bruce received an invitation for a race at Chiswick on a Saturday - a day that he was working all day. He worked out that he could travel from work to Chiswick, race, and then get back to work without his absence causing much attention. Unfortunately, he had not reckoned on the race being televised and he was spotted by one of his managers!"

Colcool. Isnt this an actual Tough of the Track storyline ? Even down to Alf working for a motor racing firm ( Cougar ) ?

The author embroidering history to honour the name of this ex-athlete ? Or simply huge coincidence ?

Not an Alf Tupper storyline as Alf would never have hidden the fact that he was running at any meet. But it is an amazing coincidence as the storylines about Alf working for a racing car firm were out and about in the 70's.

Alf would have worked all night to get the job done, kipped on the train (on the floor of course), had some fish and chips and then ran 'em all!
