Space 1999 EPISODE ORDER

Very interesting reading, guys.

I'm a fan of the show since it was first aired. However, me of the 1970s preferred series 2. Me of today prefers series 1.

Me of the 70s' got VERY excited with series 2 and thought it was the best thing ever until the me of the early 80s' ( 12 yrs ish old lol) started watching the Saturday morning repeats and realised that series 1 was kinda scary and series 2 wasn't !!!

Retrospectively I think that the special effects in series 2 are often absolutely incredible and ahead of series 1 but the direction (not the actors themselves) and the scripts are woeful in comparison with the first series.

One thing that I have never read online or anywhere else that I would like to state here:
Surely episode 1 of series 2 "The Metamorph" is a re-telling of Series 1 "Deaths' Other Dominion" and also stars Brian Blessed.
Perhaps another example of the different dimension theory that Starscape mentioned earlier in this thread.
Also isn't "Brian The Brain" rather similar to "The Infernal Machine"????

Bizzarely... I'm now thinking (going with the theory that Space 1999 series 2 is a different dimension version of series 1) how many episodes could be seen to be a variation of a series 1 story???

Both series in their own universes certainly make sense since the changes to Moonbase (if nothing else) were too severe. Even Koenig when from a more grim character in the first to a more light-hearted one in the second.

Never noticed about how similar some of the stories were between the two series.

Would have been interesting if they had brought out the sequel Space 2999 to see how they survived as rumoured at a time.

I have one problem with it....
"My Husbands' out there" -Helena Russell
We KNOW that Helenas' husband ( Lee Russell) was an astronaut who was presumed lost but mysteriously appears again in "A Matter of Life and Death" episode from series 1.
Other than that major fault of logic, you capture all characters very well and the story itself would make a great episode.
Your characterization of Koenig is in particular absolutely brilliant.
His pragmatism and duty to protect everyone under his command perfectly states Landaus' portrayal, frankly of all the Space 1999 books that I have read your fanzine story is the most accurate triumph in decoding the guy with his wants and desires tampered and defeated by his sense of command and loyalty to the role that he was placed in.
If you wanted to expand the story, this would make a great novel.

Yes, I heard that rumour but it didn't happen, although a brief audio CD series did.
In reference to similarities between stories of both series and in keeping with the theory that series 2 happened in a different dimension...

I was trying to bring in that tension when Helena found what appeared to be her husband in that episode. So, I guess this was earlier in the series. At the time, his body had not been found but presumed dead. I wanted Koenig to have to react to Helena having a reason to go back that Koenig hadn't considered or wanted to face. He still has to do what's best for the community, even if Koenig will lose out.

Dear Starscape,
Firstly let me state that I am a massive fan of the publications that I have read that were produced by you.
Secondly, as I stated above, I love this story and rate it highly.
Thirdly: Helena KNEW her husband was not on Earth and presumed dead and therefore any episode after "Breakaway" would still not make any sense for her to have said such.
I think you simply delete that line and expand the story and have a really great Space 1999 novel.
Don't hate me, I'm just a pedantic git.
