FAVOURITE AMERICAN COMIC OF ALL TIME

Post by jim244 »

I love both DC and Marvel and others.
My vote goes to "Detective Comics".
As much as I love Superman, Batman is my favourite.
And the name DC comes from this title.

The last 15 or so issues of Ghost Rider. Awesome.
From Marvel, it's the noble warriors like Namor, Silver Surfer or Thor, whilst from DC, I enjoyed the slightly more juvenile Shazam! and Plastic Man, although the JSA of the Seventies All-Star and JLA team-ups were great. Naturally, the New Gods was spectacular. It would make a great movie - far more than the traditional superhero fayre.

Hi, Jim.

Am not a great Marvel fan but I do like DC. But prefer Superman to Batman. Especially when drawn by John Byrne.

My all time favourite American comic title was the DC 80page giant followed closely by Superman. Lois lane . Jimmy Olson but probably a very close second was this classic title Metal Men . Was not a big Marvel fan but loved the 60s British comics which had the marvel reprint strips. Probably the reason I like DC over Marvel was the fact the seaside town I have lived in since a child most of the shops use to have spinner racks full of DC and Harvey comics, never saw a American Marvel comic regularly until comic shops started to open late 70s early 80s and by then I had a mortgage and family so spare cash was limited that probably that’s why my son is also a DC fan but has a huge Transformer, GI Joe and Power rangers comic collection which were his childhood favourites.

I only ever subscribed to one actual American comic - MAD.

However, there were the days were you could buy Marvel and DC full color imports at your local newsagents and for a time i was heavily into them. However, being a Spidey fan, I loved The Amazing Spider-Man, especially the issue which introduced the Black Cat.

Now if we are talking British comics featuring American characters then I would say:

As a kid: Super Spider-Man.
As an adult: Deadpool Unleashed as Deadpool became my favourite American comic character.

Hi Isslord

Johny Byrnes' Superman was absolutely fantastic, totally agree.
His Man Of Steel limited series that rebooted the Superman franchise in 1986 is beyond genius.
