Doctor Who on U&Eden channel

Post by stevezodiac »

I noticed today that U&Eden has started showing Doctor Who. They started with all four episodes of Spearhead From Space and it continues all week with other Pertwee stories. They show a whole story in the morning then repeated early evening and early hours.

Yeah, they did it before. Should mean Genesis of the Daleks will be on in due course.

I only have freeview and U&Eden is a recent addition to the service. I always thought it was a nature/environment channel.

Thanks Steve.
I hadn't heard of this channel before but read this post yesterday and found it today ,great to see Pertwee "Siluarians" eps.
Just in case anybody is unaware, almost every existing Dr Who story is available to stream free on BBC iplayer (the exceptions being "An Unearthly Child", "Terror of the Zygons" and "Seeds of Doom".
However, I much prefer watching it on "live" TV as it were so thanks for this post and enjoyed 2 episodes before the wife turned channel over.

I'm seeing them for the first time, didn't bother first time round. I thought the Silurians story was too long and could have been done in five rather than seven episodes. Surprised at how much was spent on these episodes. I imagined it was all wobbly sets and painted egg boxes for decor but there are lots of aeroplane and helicopter stunts with loads of extras in costume.

I've got four tvs in my home, have you considered getting a second telly?

I do indeed possess more than one television set, as you have 4 I want to say I have 8 for sheer comedic value in the classic "Fistful of Travellers Cheques "Comic Strip Presents" steak scene but in reality I only have 2.
The issue is that it can appear to be rude to leave a room due to your missus wanting to watch something else.
On the budget issue, as the Dr was now confined to Earth they saved a fortune and so could afford to spend a little more on helicopters etc.
As for your thoughts on it being too many episodes, I agree but vastly prefer this to the current story in 45 minutes thing.

Apparently not Starscape.
The channel is going to show Jon Pertwee episodes from "Spearhead From Space" to "The Mutants" (omitting two stories "Mind of Evil" and "Day of the Daleks") then go straight back to "Spearhead" for a repeat run.

Nice to see it on terrestrial TV even though I've got every classic Doctor Who dvd released. Not really a fan of the modern stuff.

Exactly the same, got all the DVDs but just nice to see it on TV.
I still watch the current stuff and liked this Saturdays episode (barber shop one) a lot but not really a massive fan of the new stuff, although thought Capaldi was excellent.

Must admit, watching these Pertwee Doctor Whos, every story features The Master. Couldn't stand him first time round. Same goes for Davros. There was a bloke on Radio 5 live this week talking about Doctor Who. He said the Daleks were their own masters until Davros came along at which point they became underlings not befitting their power and domination. True.

Lol to be fair, Steve hits it on the nail with Davros.
The Daleks would never appear without Davros again in the original series, after "Genesis".
Yet before seemed capable on their own.
5 William Hartnell stories
2 Troughton
3 Pertwee
Then 2 Baker,1 x Davidson, Baker 2 and McCoy
So ten without Davros then 5 with him.
It weakened the concept.
Although the original "Genesis" TB story is indeed one of the best ever.
