Re: Don't call me Fatty, the name's Freddy!
The new kids are in the Beano Summer special too. So they must have been planning this for a while. One thing I noticed on the advert for the weekly in the summer special is they have a character I don't recognise scribbling on an electronic ipad. I wonder if thats an earlier draft of Sketch Khad (a...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
You'd be able to sell those 1960s Dandy's and Beano's for a lot more than £2 on eBay. You got a really good deal there. I picked up two 1970s Sparky annuals for £2 each, I wasnt on the look out for comics I was walking back from the supermarket and popped into a 2nd hand shop on a whim. I also picke...

Re: Who created Black Bob?
I've checked the Dandy Monster Index and it agrees that his first appearance in 1944 is him getting home after being kidnapped. I think Wikipedia is just wrong about it. I wonder if they got the first prose story and first picture story mixed up. Checking the index again it says the first picture st...

Re: Don't call me Fatty, the name's Freddy!
I wonder why they've made so many changes in the last year. Is it leading to something? A Bash Street cartoon?
Stevie looks a bit weird. I like both these artists but David Sutherland ghosting Nick Brennan feels out of place in the middle of a Bash Street Kids story.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I still try and frequent boot sales, second hand book shops, markets, comic shops and charity shops looking for annuals. I've managed to get a good few that way in the last couple years. And its a lot more fun than getting them via eBay. My comic and annual collection has already overwhelmed my hous...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I managed to get a copy of the 1951 Beano Book for under £30 and with all the pages. The cover is a little grubby and the words on the spine have completely rubbed off but inside its in lovely condition. Its now the oldest annual I've got and it's a really good one. I don't think I've read another B...

50 years of the Rover
After reading this excellent blog post with a wonderful timeline of DC Thomson's comics (and story papers) https://michaelowencarroll.wordpress.com/2018/08/25/dc-thomson-comics-timeline/ I noticed that the Rover along with the Beano, Dandy and Commando was the only DC Thomson comic to reach 50 years...

Re: The unofficial history of the Beano
One thing that confused me that I'm not quite sure of is that the book mentions Euan Kerr worked on the New Hornet. I cant find anything online about a comic with that name. Is it just a mistake and the Hornet and the New Hotspur, which I think it merged with, were mixed up?

Re: The unofficial history of the Beano
I've got the book now and had a read. It's really good. My only complaints are that its not very critical of the Beano except a couple times. Including the artwork of the short lived Gordon Gnome story and the first series of the 2009 dennis cartoon. I feel kind of sorry for that artist. he's the on...

Re: Unused Ball Boy script
That's really interesting. The script definitely feels very Beano but I'd agree with them saying it was out of character for Ball Boy. Could work more as a Minnie strip.

Does the Monster Fun comic have any Tom Paterson artwork in it?
His stuff was my personal high light in the holiday special/issue 0.

Re: Comics Collected
That looks like a really interesting book. Charlie Chaplin comics must have been much more collectable back then, than they are today. Personally I've never really been a fan of those celebrity comics but its interesting how tastes change. On a related note I recently found a wikipedia article on th...

Can anyone help identify this Bash Street Artist?
I was reading the Bash Street Kids Book for 1991 which I recently picked up from a local charity shop. Its mostly reprints of David Sutherland's work but there are a few strips like the below which appear to be by an artist I've never seen working on the Beano before. It has an almost Viz-like quali...
