Re: Beano expansion

I always think The Beano should have tried to enter the children's book market with graphic novels based on popular characters.

Re: Casey Court (and Kabot's Klowns)

I know its been 7 years since I last posted in this thread, and nearly all the images in the thread have now been scrubbed from the internet, but I think its finally time I posted evidence of reused artwork in Casey court. https://i.imgur.com/Wboys2d.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5d1vldH.jpg I love findin...

Re: What did you get for Christmas?

I got some reprints of the 1940s Beano Annuals. I like seeing how much the Beano has changed since then. I always find a lot of the 1940s stuff quite amateurish? Except for Dudley Watkins excellent artwork, which I have even more appreciation for now because I also got this years Beano/Dandy annual ...

Re: Beano annual reprints

In regards to 1963 can anyone advise if it has art by Leo Baxendale and Ken Reid in it? The 1963 annual, with the bash street kids on the cover, does have Ken Reid art in it. I don't think it has Baxendale though. Comparing it to the 1961 annual the Little Plum, Minnie and Bash Street Kids strips l...

Re: Toxic reaches issue 300

With these kind of magazines I always wonder how much staff they need to produce the non-comics stuff. I remember reading my sister's Spongebob magazines a few years back and the features pages were just a mixture of stock art a graphic designer could knock up in Photoshop in an afternoon. They didn...

If Dennis has a black friend now I hope they can go to Abyssinia and see the homeland of Gnasher's Abysinnian Wire-Haired tripe hound breed.

Re: Old annuals

I have that same Okay annual you have pictured there. It is quite the odd book. I assume it is from the late 50s/early 60s, there is no date in it but another book I got from the same car boot with the same name in it was date 1960. It seems to be mostly made up of reprints, some American in nature,...

Re: 2018 Annuals

Glad to see this year's Beano Annual has a much more interesting cover than last years. It does not have any of that stock art feel to it at all, which is good to see. I am surprised the cover has no mention of the comic's 80th anniversary on it. They often do mention these on the covers, even if it...

Re: 2017 Annuals

Some of the pages have pencil numbers on and many of the Biffo and Korky covers are missing dates. I wonder if they are early versions rather than the fully released versions of the comic. I didn't notice any pencil numbers but the cover dates have been removed, presumably so young readers won't th...

Re: 2017 Annuals

I've just finished reading the Raiders of the Lost Archive, 2017's Beano and Dandy reprint annual. Did anyone else notice the Korky misprint? There was one Korky page, I assume a reprint from an Annual, but they only printed the first page so the story and punchline was unfortunately left unfinished...

Re: 2017 Annuals

I've been reading through my piles of annuals which have been amassing over the last couple of years. I recently read last year's Beano Annual. Beano Annual 2017 and I was surprised how good it was especially when compared to the annuals from the year before. They've got rid of the unfortunately bor...

Re: Britain's Worst Comic

I found a page on Peter Gray's blog about TV Help

http://petergraycartoonsandcomics.blogs ... -1987.html

It seems to feature among other things a character called Hector Poo and a strip called Strange Hill.

Re: Dreams and Nightmares.

I had a dream last night where I found some Beano comic libraries or fun size Beanos but they were drawn by some of those new artists that have been drawing in the Beano for the last year or two. The comics looked quite good but I think I only saw (well dreamt) the covers. I was going through a big ...
