Re: A Comics Related Easter Egg from the New Doctor Who Seri

Capaldi lacks the sometimes laid-back charm of Pertwee - he's much more intense - but other than that he's the first of the 'new era' Doctors to really feel like he fits the role, IMO.

Re: Graphic Novels

I'm a fan of most of the Graphic Novels mentioned...the trouble is I've always hated the term 'Graphic Novel'! I know it's gained almost universal acceptance by now, and that my objections have long since been discarded by the world at large, but I still tend to agree with Alan Moore that the term ...

Re: Mary Cadogan (1928-2014)

I've only recently discovered the fascinating world of story papers and school stories, but Mary Cadogan's was a name that I stumbled across frequently. I've yet to read any of her books - thanks for listing them, Phoenix - but it sad to hear of her passing. Thanks also for sharing your memory of th...

Re: DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE - Complete Online pdf files

Thanks for deleting the link, Al. JT, I'm sorry if I came across too strong but, well, I feel very strongly against piracy. Especially in this instance where the work being pirated was that of friends of mine and, even my own stuff in a couple of recent issues. If anyone wants to read those Doctor ...

DavidKW wrote:Just got a DVD yesterday of The Changes - a sci fi childrens series of the 70s. Can't wait to watch this as it was great when I first saw it as a kid and will enjoy it more now.

Show still gets talked about today.
One that stuck in my brain from childhood. Well worth a re-watch!

Re: Retro TV

"Sapphire and Steel - Creepy as hell" Oh yes indeed. It was the 4th. story and I finished it last night. Really well done with a seriously good bad guy and Steel getting on at Sapphire again for "failing". People die in a nasty way and the whole thing is claustrophobic. I know I'm not watching in o...

Re: Retro TV

I lost the thread of Sapphire and Steele, but apparantly, there's a really creepy later serial where an unseen, Magritte -like surrealist character stalks photographs and manages to terrorize the real-life people depicted in them. Haven't seen this one yet, but hope to eventually, old son. It's cre...

Re: Retro TV

Picked up CHOCKY on DVD at the weekend for just a quid.

Every bit as good as I remember, I'm glad to say. I loved it when I was a kid and it holds up really well. Matthew's account of his 'kidnapping' is really quite creepy and it amazed me how calm his parents were about it.

Re: Is this forum turning its toes up?

I check in every day even when I don't post. I'm just busy with other stuff and, not being online at home, I only have a couple of hours online at the library every morning to do everything I need to get done online, forums, jobhunting, writing, emailing.

Re: A sex change for Thor

It's becoming a bit to-and-fro this argument, so best leave it for a while. But I maintain the majority of people that don't want Thor to change to female would be the same people that don't want Wonder Woman to be male, Superman to be not from Krypton, Shazam to change to Marvelman's costume (and ...
