WHAT ABOUT FRANK MCDAIRMID?

I WAS NEVER A BIG FAN OF FRANK MCDAIRMID BUT I HAD A LOT OF RESPECT FOR HIS OUTPUT RATE. HE TOOK OVER BIG HEAD AND THICK HEAD FROM KEN REID, DRAWING IN KEN'S STYLE BUT EASY TO SPOT THE DIFFERENCE. HE DID TEXAS TED IN TV COMIC BUT MOSTLY HE'S REMEMBERED FOR THE GASWORKS GANG IN COR! THIS STRIP WAS IN...

Who was Mike Brown?

Don't know if it's been brung up before but I always enjoyed Mike Brown's work in the 60s on stuff like The Group and Wiz War in Pow and Smash. I think he inked over Baxendale's layouts but he actually signed his name to the strips which was intriguing. What happened to him. Have a vague recollectio...

I think Tom Paterson drew Snooper in the Buster, can't be sure on dates but it mightn have been before his Sweeny Toddler in S&S. 71/72?

Commando For Action and Adventure: ANZACS AT WAR

When you say "over here" do you mean in the uk? I've seen this book a couple of times on my travels but i can't remember where. Borders i think at Greenwich SE London. (I got the repro first Dandy and Broons books there a couple of months ago at half price) they have a graphic novels/comic section u...

BBC News Article

I think Lew is being a bit pedantic. We celebrate the date on the cover just like we do with The Beano and Dandy. If you look in The Times "on this day" section in the 4th December 2007 issue it will commemorate the first Dandy as 4th December 1937 (cover date) rather than a few days earlier when it...

I think Desperate Dan stands out above all because unlike his other creations it was such a weird fantasy world (I wonder what Steve Ditko could have done with it). There were so many recurring storylines like the robot teacher (can't remember any others at short notice - please fill in the gaps). I...

LOST OUT ON A BARGAIN?

DOES ANYONE HAVE STORIES OF MISSING OUT ON BARGAIN COMICS? A FEW YEARS AGO AT MY LOCAL ANTIQUE MARKET I PICKED UP DOZENS OF ISSUES OF JINGLES AND TIP TOPS FROM THE 50S IN SUPERB CONDITION - ABOUT 50P EACH! SADLY AT THE SAME MARKET I CAME ACROSS A BOX OF ABOUT 50 DISC AND MUSIC ECHOES POP PAPER FROM ...

GRANDPA BROON WIDOWER

I BUY THE SUNDAY POST MOST WEEKS AND REMEMBER A BROONS STRIP RECENTLY WHERE GRANDPA BROONS ALLUDES TO HIS WIFE HAVING DIED SIXTY YEARS AGO. I WAS SLIGHTLY ASTONISHED AS THIS, TO MY MIND, IS THE FIRST INSTANCE OF A CHARACTER IN A HUMOUROUS STRIP REFERING TO A DEATH IN THE FAMILY. AM I RIGHT? AND DOES...

Does anyone remember Super DC?

Yes and that reminds me of Baby Crockett digging a tunnel through the snow from his front door and round in circles until he came back to his front door again. I love the winter in comics. Also Ginger in bed, his bed always looked really cosy.

Does anyone remember Super DC?

I bought the first issue of Super DC and would have got them all if i'd known it would only last 12 issues. I think Dennis Gifford did some cartoons and Mick Anglo's name cropped up i think. It's one of those old comics that never seems to turn up anywhere not even on ebay. Was a good idea and even ...
