but then I'm a paranoid bastard- just ask Marionette. I realise it was traumatic moment in your life, but it's probably time to let it go and move on. My opinion isn't that important. :? Re: What comics to keep???

don't sell any, you'll regret it at some point. It depends on the comic and the emotional attachment you have to it. I had some early Golden Age comics that I recently sold, and honestly, I was glad that I did. They were too fragile to take out of their bags, and I had good quality reprints anyway....

Food in humour strips

I was idly considering today how often food occurs as a reward in humour strips. I don't mean in Billy Bunter-type fat child obsessed with stuffing their cakeholes stories, but just generally. It got me thinking whether it is perhaps a leftover artifact of the world war 2 and post-war years of auste...

Looking for pulp SF

I don't think it's a huge leap to guess that people who are into old comics might also be into old books, particularly of a pulp style, so I was wondering whether anyone could suggest somewhere I might look for old copies of the Golden Amazon series by John Russell Fearn. I know there is a reprint s...

Re: Collectors etiquette

The curse of the ham fisted royal mail large letter pricing; The larger UK comics 2AD, Tammy, Lion, Buster etc cost just under £3.00 to send and the slightly smaller size cost £1.17. Sellers feel forced into selling in batches to compensate for this but reading these comments that obviously isn't w...

Re: What comics to keep???

Absolutely agree on the point that an Establishment should be set up to store and look after our comics collections after we are all gone. I'd feel a lot better about this , as whoever clears out my house will have no real love or affinity for a pile of 1969 BEEZERS: this will amount to a block of ...

Re: Tammy's last issue

Ok, I now have confirmation from someone who has looked through the actual comics that no Tammy strips appeared in any issue of Girl between June and September 1984, and in fact there was no mention of Tammy at all. I think that puts that one to bed.

Re: Tammy's last issue

I've been in communication with someone who owns the relevant issues of Girl. He informs me that the only comics running in Girl while it had Tammy's masthead are Tracy's Magic Birthday and Patty's World as well as a couple of photostrips. He's now checking the issues between the last issue of Tammy...

Re: High concept (AKA bizarre) stories

http://ukgirlscomics.com/ does indeed list Penny's Pogo Stick as a serial in Bunty, as well as Leap Along Lesley, though there is no further information.

The mystery deepens...

Tammyfan wrote:Maybe Pat's got it confused with another story called Penny's Pogo Stick?
I suppose it's possible the story was recycled with a different name. That's not unheard of, after all.

Thanks, Phoenix. That really is a gem.

Re: Collectors etiquette

I have this problem quite frequently with eBay sales items. As you say, Marionette, it's a case of balancing out how badly you want the advertised issues that you haven't got against the higher unit cost. if there are two or three that I want in a batch of four I will bid, but if there is only one ...

Re: Collectors etiquette

Just remind yourself that another opportunity will come. Most British comics sold in the tens of thousands. There are still a fair few about. I've reached the point with Tammy that I end up passing on most of the issues I want when they turn up on ebay because they are inevitably part of a collectio...

Re: Tammy's last issue

Nope, the 1985 annual can be excluded. Ditto the 1986 annual. Holiday specials I do not know. Wow, it would be great to see scans of the final episode of Cora Can't Lose if they are available. :D By the way, does anyone realise that this year marks the 30th anniversary of all those 1984 IPC cancell...

High concept (AKA bizarre) stories

Girls comics often seem to be full of stories with the most peculiar premises. Take, for example, all the sports stars with implausible handicaps. I was just reading an article by Pat Mills where he mentions a story he refers to as Penny's Pogo Stick , about a girl travelling across Nazi-occupied Eu...
