Any comics I have that are incomplete are not bagged, that way I know straight away they are damaged. Came across an unbagged Cor!! this morning and, wondering why, flipped through it to find booklet pages missing.
And that is absolutely your right, your choice to do so but I agree with Chalky.
I want to preserve comics that are intact.
I don't see a point to our hobby otherwise.
I want the people of the 25th Century to have good examples of The Eagle,Buster,The Beano,Commando etc.
Ultimately I am tired of bad ebay sellers when there are so many FANTASTIC ebay sellers.
What is the point of reading, for example,"1984" by George Orwell when the last page is missing?
I would never suggest only "fine" copies are kept but if they are missing bits then throw them away.
Just my thoughts and np if you feel differently.

I have a small pile of damaged comics. I use them to patch up incomplete comics that may gave a frayed spine or corner missing etc. The yellowed paper perfectly blends. I used to use Scoth magic tape but contemporaneous paper is less intrusive.

I use similar tape to repair posters that have minor tears stevezodiac. Works for comics too. Had to buy it from the States. It cost me around £50. It's pretty expensive granted but very useful as its strong, thin, and once attached melts into the paper becoming virtually invisible and it doesn't discolour with age being archival standard.

I know I'm reporting this late (been busy with one thing or another), but I did eventually go to the Royal Mail depot but they found nothing for me and asked if I had a tracking number. I said I didn't recall receiving one. I later went back on my e mails and checking and no e mail with a tracking number was sent nor received by me. Looks like then comics got lost in system, but at least I received a refund, but would've preferred the comics.

On a more positive note, the following Sunday I went along to Stockport's vintage village (held bi-monthly) and bought a small pile of Tammy (and Sandie/June) plus a Christmas Cor! from 1971. Not in the best conditions they were, but still good additions to my collections/gap fillers (although I got a couple of accidental duplicates, list I carry and filing system clearly both need re-organising).

Whilst there I also bought a rare Radio Caroline annual and 3 football progs containing Football League Reviews; small books with a lot in them. One, in a Wolves prog contained a rare Vol 1 of these (first I've found), plus a special one inside the 1969 League Cup prog (Swindon beat Arsenal) and the other in a Millwall v Bolton Wanderers prog.

The venue played some great Northern Soul tracks in the background making the experience all the more enjoyable; when Nancy Ames' "I Don't Want To Talk About It" came on I wanted to (badly) move and dance to it, but there was no room to!

I've recently made a couple of visits to the fantastic Bygone Times in Eccleston near Chorley and Leyland. In there I netting a bargain 1974 Schoolfriend Annual (replaces the one I've got with loose pages), plus the first two volumes of Century 21 collection of reprints from TV21 comics (which came out during 2009 before I became a serious comic collector), for great prices.

Whilst there I also spent and went very seriously over budget buying mountains of CDs from a newer stall. Many of these CDs were compilations of lesser known and obscure records from the 50s, 60s and 70s, many containing stuff I'd spent years trying to find. Add to that, listening to Boom Radio has made made aware of some others (a digital plus station, where I've been mentioned on two consecutive shows a few Saturdays ago). Over budget but getting pleasures form what I buy!

On the subject of conditions:

I remember once talking with a dealer at Manchester Comic Fair who was frustrated as a comic he had taken the trouble to source for collector was rejected over its condition. I commented that there's a "beggars can't be choosers" situation if there's a comic you really want a lot - ie I'd be happy to but the comic in almost any condition as long as most of the pages are intact and the stories are readable. I'd be happy just to have and enjoy that comic now and could always eventually find a better conditioned replacement many years later, if I survive long enough.
Best enjoy what you have now and if you can find a better copy whenever if you're about.

I have replaced a few from my collection with better conditioned copies, but enjoyed reading the stories when I could via the tatty/disintegrating first copy I bought.

Having said that I do find it annoying and frustrating when pieces are cut out. But then I did a while back buy some Princess Tinas at bargain prices with bits cut out. But as long as I could still enjoy my favourite strips intact (The Happy Days, Alona, Jane Bond), I was happy to enjoy these.

More frustrating is buying annuals - and I got a couple recently - with key pages missing.

Annuals missing pages is a problem I ran into quite a bit when collecting early 1950s Beano annuals.

I bought a couple from ebay which were missing pages and it wasnt on the listing. One I got a partial refund on and the other I didnt realise had pages missing until it had gone too long for me to get a refund.

The pages of those annuals come out so easily and cleanly. You cant tell the pages are missing unless you count them all...

Can't remember the title but I have an annual somewhere with a lot of pages in the wrong order. It might be Twilight Zone Annual or one of those other soft cover American reprint annuals.

I have had exactly the same problem with Alan Class comics.I don't think the seller is at fault,it's not an obvious flaw.
I would advise anyone collecting Alan Class to be aware that missing pages leave no obvious mark and are common with his titles.

Last few weeks visited the town market stall that sells a few comics only to find some chap there armed with what looks like a book full of wanted lists spending ages looking through the box of comics and checking out each one with his book.He seems to buy a lot more than I would but annoyingly I have to move on can't wait ages to see what the left overs are.
Regards annuals with missing pages I always put a note sticking out of the book so they don't get sold on.

I used to get annoyed at the ephemera fair when I'd see a box of interesting stuff but there'd be a bloke in front of me looking at every single item one by one. Why do people flick through books? "yes, words on every page, it's a book alright"

I have now got the Comic anthology of space 1999 which reprints the story’s from Look in comic, plus I have put in a order for the soon to be released Stingray comic anthology. I’m slowly selling off most of my British comics due to amount of room needed and the fact the comics are starting to deteriorate due to many are printed on cheap paper. So I’m replacing them with graphic novels etc which take less room and look better on a bookcase. Being a pensioner I also need to downsize my large collection as having a couple of nasty health issues I don’t want to leave this problem to my wife and children . There are some very nice British comic graphic novels out at the moment my Christmas list is already full.
