Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
We had air raid sirens going off here into the 1980s. As Surrey Docks was still a going concern they went off at one o'clock each day as a dinner siren. My Aunt Rose had eleven kids so some of them had to sleep in a Nissen hut in the garden. My mum was bombed out of two homes. And she spoke of having to dive to the ground when a German plane machine gunned her school playground in New Cross.

I wonder if they will do a sequel? The ending was left with possibilities for one.colcool007 wrote:I got mine yesterday and I enjoyed it immensely.Tammyfan wrote:I have now got my copy of “Fatherland”. Hooray!

Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
I have just found another two that have female characters. One is 4996 Hurricane! which is a reprint of 296 from 1967 and the other is 4997 Hidden Nazis.

Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
Apparently the latest batch of Commandos will feature two new issues with female protagonists in honour of International Women's Day. These are #5103 'The Land Army Marches' and #5105 'Flak Run!'.
Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
The same thing happened in Lancaster, Steve. I have no idea when the dinner sirens ceased though because after I got my first job in Wallasey I never again stayed overnight at the family home.stevezodiac wrote:We had air raid sirens going off here into the 1980s. I believe a small cannon is fired at one o'clock each day at Greenwich. I have heard it once or twice when I've been there but not sure if it is still ongoing.
Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
Just got the two 'Women's Day' issues of Commando which make a nice change of pace from that title's normal fare (though 'Flak Run!' rather hedges its bets by just showing airplanes on the cover). Here are the splash pages.

Wow Vincent Alcazar. A name from the past. I believe he did some work in the early seventies TV21 (possibly The Saint) and then for American horror comics. I remember seeing his work quite a lot back then.

He has now done 17 Commandos and I think he has the record for the longest gap between issues with 46 years between his first one being published and his second!stevezodiac wrote:Wow Vincent Alcazar. Re: Female protagonists in Commando?
It's good to see there's yet another issue of Commando with a female protagonist out this week: this time a motorbike-riding WREN. It also features a new writer with the gender-ambiguous name Heath Ackley - does anyone have any idea if this is a man or a woman?

The Heath Ackley page at Comic Vine says male, but whether someone there knows or is just guessing I have no idea.

There is a Heath Ackley credited with a Future-Shock back in the 1980s so perhaps Steve MacManus might know.davidandrewsimpson wrote:The Heath Ackley page at Comic Vine says male, but whether someone there knows or is just guessing I have no idea.
