Robert Harrop's classic Korky the Cat and Desperate Dan
In the same vein as NP's Billy the Cat in the Beano section, here are two Dandy offerings from Robert Harrop.
I already have Dan and plan to have Korky as a birthday present.
Incidently, if you are interested in Korky, then it is only available for a limited time and you are advised to order by the end of the month.

The Korky one is a spot-on likeness-----the Dan one looks sort of like a Bob Nixon version of him....nothing wrong with that, of course!

Here's the cover from the 1944 Dandy Monster Comic.

I take it that they won't be doing one of the guy with the big nose(!)

Barney Boko. One of the other original characters. Not very well known now of course.

If Barney was a viz character, then I'm sure his likeness would be mass-produced.

Is that the original `Meddlesome Matty` on the cover? The girl next to Keyhole Kate and reaching for the Woodpecker.
A Face unclouded by thought.

Mmm, Bamboo Town in the front cover. How long did THAT strip last for? Being on the front cover, the strip would've still been running around 1942/43. Obviously the strip has faded into being unknown after being taken out of the comic.
Love the 80s and 90s Dandy and Beanos...

To the Dandy Monster Comic Index
Bamboo Town originally ran from issue 1 until 1940 (No. 153), and the second series ran from No, 200 (1/11/41) and ended in no. 258 (22/3/44)

The first run occupied the back cover.

Well just found out that my other half has bought me the Korky the Cat figure for my birthday present.
Brilliant!

Re: Robert Harrop's classic Korky the Cat and Desperate Dan
The cover of the 1944 Dandy Monster Comic was drawn by Korky artist Jimmy Crighton so the Robert Harrop Korky figure was based on an illustration by the actual artist responsible for Korky on a weekly basis. This was not the case, obviously, with Desperate Dan.
