Talk here about just about anything associated with British comics or story papers and the industry that does not fit in any other forum.
There are separate fora open to registered members for discussing specific comics, artists, websites etc.
I'm a french cartoonist and I love popular comics like Beano, Dandy, Buster, Whizzer & Chips etc... I don't know as much as I'd want about british comics (I'm currently discovering them) but I love what I seen. There is so much great characters, so much madness ! So I started to draw some british characters.

I see the first post in this necro thread has broken image tags, no doubt caused by a forum software change. Fixed it in the quote in case anyone wants to see Conor's work.
Thanks folks, glad you like them ! Don't know if I'm good enough to work for DC Thomson but yeah, I'd like to for sure ! Right now I'll do more characters drawings but soon I might submit my artwork to Beano & co There isn't much popular comics magazines in France anymore, that's a shame. So I'll try to find work overseas !
Excellent drawings, Arnuad. I agree with other people's comments, it's a very original style - and very effective too.
As an amateur cartoonist myself, I've gone a bit quiet on my own drawings of late but I've just sent some Billy Whizz samples off to D.C. Thomson in the post. Hopefully they'll arrive at the Beano office intact. If I get any feedback I'll mention it on here.

New one ! Lord Snooty the Third (I'll draw the original one later but I wanted to do a Nigel Parkinson character - he's one of my favourite modern Beano cartoonists)

If you can draw but cannot write scripts it might be a good idea to redo some existing strips in your own style. DC Thomson will need to know if you have a good storytelling technique. But try not to copy the existing layouts as that will defeat the object.
I actually tried that a while ago, I took one of Graeme Hall's Billy Whizz strips and redrew it in my attempt at a Vic Neill-esque style. The strip I used was the one-off Hall reprint in the Beano last October (shortly before Nick Brennan became the new artist). I kept some of the frames largely the same, but others I changed a fair amount. I also added a few extra jokes in the panels.
If anyone's interested, I could go over what I did for each panel on here as a script form, as I altered the dialogue and script a bit too as I wasn't totally satisfied with the original script as a basis.

Even doing a one frame gag cartoon I spend ages on getting the wording just right. Sometimes I'll change it completely but other times just replace one word.
