I have to say that Herb Trimpes work was great when inked by the great John Severin.

Each to his own but I felt Severin swamped Trimpe's linework with his own. I didn't feel they were compatable at all and dropped the Hulk after a few issues during that period. Yes, Severin is a great, (although I always preferred Marie's work) but for Marvel to use him as an inker was a waste of his talent in my opinion.

Paul; no, the Alan Moore Captain Britains don't really follow on from the original. It's the same character but each can be read seperately. Also, in between the original CB strips and the Alan Moore version is a period where CB guest stars in the Black Knight strip (Hulk Weekly). Hopefully Panini will, next year, publish a collected Black Knight volume but there's nothing definite as far as I know.

Well I have ot admit to being a John Severin fan and to be honest anything Severin inks tends to look like he's also drawn it as well - As you say each to his / her own I actually dropped Hulk a few issues after Severin left and only picked up the occassional issue (opnly saw the Trimpe work without Severin via Mighty World of Marvel).

I recently read a few of the Black Knight Cap Britain stories - very good gI might pick up a reprint edition of that.

Yes I agree the Trimpe Hulks after Severin left were not too impressive. I do like the pre-Severin Hulk comics by Trimpe though.
