Welll yesterday I got the 4 Commando's, but also:
-Two books of The Gambols, a strip from the Express which appears to have run for many years. The books are described as "annuals" and are numbered 42 and 47! The content is fairly predictable Good Life / Keeping Up Appearances fare.
-The Hotspur annual 1966, which I beleive to be the first one. I think it was re-issued as a nostalgia editon for something like £16.99. A good idea for early Beano and Dandy annuals, but 1966 is a bit too recent. This one's in decent nick and cost £3.99!
-The Z Cars annual 1966, this is how licensed annuals ought to be done! Full of text stories and a few strips. Unfortunately the colouring is hideously gaudy (mind you, the TV show didn't have any colour at all). When new it cost a monumental 9/6! The Hotspur annual was 7/6, but is almost all strips, and they're much better drawn too.

Yep, that 1966 book is the first annual for New Hotspur. The old Hotspur story paper had some annuals in the 30s and 40s, however.

another first is two Valients from the mid 60's..
love the covers a couple are getting married on a high wire..exchanging rings..also just read steel Claw what a great strip.I have the large reprint book of Steel Claw ...funny seeing the real name of Gabby McGlew his yarns aren't true.prefer his Buster comic name..

Believe it or not Valiant's 'Gabby McGlew' strips were reprinted from Knockout where he was known as 'Blarney Bluffer'. Buster simply changed his name back again when reprinting them for a second time!

From eBay three of the DC 500 page showcase presents b/w reprint books for £15 lot some nice late 50s to early 60s superman story's should keep me going for a couple of weeks , Now if only you could get the same type of books reprinting Victor, hornet,tv21 etc I would be a happy chap
Also just won some pocket library's for my collection , hoping for a few dry weekends before the bootsale season ends in this area to see I can pick up a few more choice items to get me through the winter

Started the day with a couple of Billie Turf albums, which a partly Swedish, partly Dutch and partly Canadian guy at my work got me. I'd assumed they were still coming out in Holland, but later asked a couple of Dutch 20-somethings, who had never heard of it. Anyway, these look to be from the 70's or 80's, and cost all of the €20 I gave him!

Billie Turf is the Dutch name for Billy Bunter, and the albums contain slapstick action in the style of the Knockout / Valiant / Jackpot(I think it ended up there?) strip.

Picked this 1946 Dandy monster comic from the house clearance place down the road from me didn't cost a fortune either

The 1918-19, 1920 (which is the next volume, they just had a phase of giving them 'definite' dates) and 1922 volumes of Chums. Of course, I eagerly turned to November 1918 to see what the editor had to say about the end of the war... NOTHING! You wouldn't even realise it, apart from the fact all the war-related serials rapidly come to an end, replaced by tales of pirates or Robin Hood.

70 mainly 90s comics. Predominantly Dandy and Beano. Dandy looks as though it could have been written 20 years previously. I was always more a Fleetway fan, so glad to see a few Busters in there, although they weren't the same. Nostalgia aint what it used to be! All for a measly £4.

Went to Lewisham and in WH Smiths I got the Broons and Oor Wullie Classic strips from the 70s as well as the new Oor Wullie book. Smiths have a special offer "Buy one get the other for a £1" so I saved £5.99.

If only the ones Scope are selling were that cheap... three for a quid, they're charging, despite some being ripped or having sellotape stains from free gifts. Been sat there unsold for nearly two months.

That's odd, Oxfam in Cambridge where knocking out 90's Beanos for £1.99 each a while back, and they all went in a week. I only bought 4, too!

Edit: Oh yeah, today I got The Rocket, a one-off late 40's comic (also the title given to a lesser-known AP paper of the 20's and one from the late 50's which was famously "edited" by Douglas Bader) from Hotspur Publishing. I own another by them, called "The Forgers" or "Secret Service Series 3". This is pretty similar, 16 small pages of complete humour and adventure, all in blue and red ink. The lead story is a western in which the horse is actually the hero!
