Re: What comics did you buy today?
Got the following today:
2000AD 1820
Judge Dredd Megazine 333
IDW Judge Dredd 2
All good and I am getting to like the IDW comic. The stories are good and they are keeping faith with the original.

[quote="alanultron5"... Compal comic auctions have a copy of ...[/quote]
Compal Auctions also have original artwork of Shiver and Shake 1973 Christmas issue front page (lot 159, http://www.compalcomics.com/catalogue/lot159.htm). The current owner has bought the piece from my mate a short time ago and is now selling it for profit but he has "improved" the page by adding a black and white photocopy of the masthead. Does the seller imagine the addition increases the value? It makes the whole piece look like a cheap photocopy to me...

Maybe that's exactly what it is?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
The Beano 3672 - a bumper issue presumably because of the upcoming half-term where a lot of the strips have been doubled. I loved Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie and especially Billy Whizz. NP is definitely the star of the show with having 11 pages of strip and I'm not counting the front cover, fun pages or mini strips.
Well done, Mr P. I particularly loved the reader in the newsagent.

I should think if Compal say it's original artwork then it is, that lot know what they're on about XDDigifiend wrote:Maybe that's exactly what it is?
I have just seen the first volume of Chums on Ebay, though. Somebody was selling it for about £50, though it's immediately reappeared for £200, somebody trying to make a quick profit. I think it's a bit much when it's an amateur-bound effort with the title stencilled onto a green cover, it looks like a piece of army equipment!
Anyway, Yesterday I got the latest 4 Commandos, and The Phoenix issue 58. I also got the Gerald G Swan Schoolgirl's Album 1949.

CLiNT 2.6 - good Secret Service this issue.
Jet 15/05/1971
Jet 05/06/1971 - I like it and have started a collection.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Folks who know me; know I already have a copy of Sparky No1 -with free gift!
However! In a private purchase arranged through a third party I bought another Sparky No1 with free gift!
"Why has the fool done that!?" I hear you all cry! It is because it was a `specimin` copy which -along with the gift; also had the original special leaflets known as `Solicitations` sent to newsagents by Thomsons to advertise the new comic.
The `B` side of second leaflet shows when the Four, 30 second ads were shown on ITV! These were on Jan 13 (Wednesday), 14, 21 & 28 (All Thursday) during Peak Children's viewing times!
These `Solicitation` leaflets are truly rare and he would only sell as a full set! Means I now have a near-mint copy of Sparky No 1 now!
This is nothing to do with the copy of Sparky No1 which sold for £69.99 on E.Bay recently!

A Face unclouded by thought.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
It'd be nice to find the TV schedules for those four days, to know what shows the adverts aired with. I suspect that we'll never find the adverts themselves - probably wiped.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
IDW Judge Dredd 3 and the first discrepancy to the UK version.
In 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, it is Chief Judge Hershey that is in charge of Mega-City One. Where in this comic, it is Chief Justice Morgan (same title as used in the Stallone film and the DC comics). I can only assume that the American audience relate more to the DC comic version of Dredd than Rebellion's.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
The Stallone film has an excuse - Hershey wasn't promoted until 1999, and that film was made in 1995. So she was his sidekick, which matches the comics of the time. Last year's film used Judge Anderson as the sidekick instead, and Hershey is only mentioned on a computer monitor. The Americans certainly wouldn't be familiar with her as a superior officer, unless they've been importing the UK comics.

Just received in the mail this morning from Amazon, Brickman Begins
Re: What comics did you buy today?
*Jamie Smart's "Where's the Doctor?" book - brilliant!
*Topper No. 300, a fireworks issue, though not the best fireworks cover of all time (that would be Mickey Mouse no. 92 or Wham! no. 21)

Sid, I've only read issue 1 of the IDW Dredd series but isn't it set in the early days of the strip's continuity, before Hershey was even introduced?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
D'oh!
I honestly didn't know you had it available from your website, Lew.
