Today I got two Dan Dare books - Rogue Planet and Reign of the Robots. I had ordered The Man from Nowhere and Prisoners of Space too. I saw those two titles in the "dispatched" email, and just assumed they were on their way. However, when I re-checked today, I noticed they ominously said "pre-ordered" instead
Anybody have any experience with delayed items from Forbidden Planet? Do they keep you informed?

Bought this week's Beano yesterday, as usual, and picked up a Simpsons/Futurama Summer Bumper Pack, which contained back issues (all from last year) of Simpsons Comics, Futurama Comics, and The Best of Bart Simpson.

The issue of Simpsons Comics, #198, turned out to have a picture sent in by a 10 year old reader, of Homer and Santa's Little Helper dressed as what was labelled as "Denniss & Gnasher". However, the dog was wearing a striped jersey instead of Gnasher's famous spiky fur.

At a car boot sale today in the National Trust's Kingston Lacey estate in Dorset I picked up issues 46-530 of Look & Learn. The chap didn't want anything for them but I gave him the change I had in my pocket (1.27 but he only took a pound!) and even offered to deliver them for me. I have duplicates of issues 136 and 298 if anyone wants to swap them with issues 1-45!!
In all my years of comic buying, today was probably among the best. It was as if it was meant to be, and I assured the chap that they are going to a good home.

Today I got the latest Commando's and Phoenix (the latter with snow on the logo... not quite the right time for that!).
I also got The Dalek Book, the annual from the 60's, for £40. It seemed a fair price, considering the cost of some others on Ebay, and the battered spine, but then I noticed several pages are missing. Oh well, it'll do (and it appears all the lavish full-colour comic strips are present).

I also went to a small exhibition of British (mainly, there's one American one) and Spanish chapbooks and handbills relating to crime. Of course, these chapbooks were the forerunners of Penny Dreadfuls (and there was also a couple of Aldine libraries on display). The less-literate Spain of the time had large sheets of paper with many small pictures in sequence, and the writing in short verses, just like some early comic strips in Punch, and the like!

Bought the Beano, Dennis Megazine, Dandy Summer Special and Beano Birthday Special. And all undamaged, despite both the weekly Beano and the Megazine having tall card which often gets damaged in transit. And the Dandy Special was basically free as I had a voucher to get £5 off when spending £12.

And not comics, but I also bought 10 Doctor Who books for £3.99, RRP £59.99, from a YMCA charity shop! Three of them were duplicates of ones I had already, but it was still a big saving. I'd have expected to pay £1 for one book, but they work out 39p each. :)

Bought the 75th Anniversary Beano, to see what I thought please feel free to have a read of my review: http://wizzkid97.wordpress.com/2013/07/ ... ssue-3695/

Also bought the Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Megazine. Biggest waste of £3.99 ever. :(

^At least it has a decent amount of comic strip - it just happens that you've already read most of it (namely, the Nuke Noodle comic). I bet people who weren't Dandy readers will finally get a shot of what they've missed, and love it. Now the guessing game begins. Who will they use next?

Oh definitely. For somebody who hasn't read Nuke Noodle, they're in for a treat! But for somebody who has already read all 59 of Nuke's adventures and already have every issue he appeared in, it does feel like you've wasted your money. The Dennis the Menace story was fantastic though, very funny and very silly - but I just wished there was more. I hope in future issues we'll get to see some Dennis the Menace spin-offs like Gnasher's Bite, Gnipper and Bea.

I reckon we'll see George VS. Dragon at some point. I'd personally like to see Yore if I'm honest, would like to read those stories as one whole thing.

Yesterday, I received a bundle of Jester comics from 1934 (16 issues plus a duplicate) as well as No. 3693 of the Beano (I should have got No. 3694 by now :? )

And coming from Newsstand, the Beano No. 3695 and the Dennis and Gnasher Megazine No. 1 (I bet this shows up before I get No. 3694. It's happened before) plus the Beano and Dandy Summer specials from the DCT shop.

Bri, I think it was Nigel Parkinson for the story in BeanoMAX 79. and the Bananaman story was a reprint.
