Just bought Victor Summer Special 1977 for £18... I know, I know... it kept tempting me and, bearing in mind the price of 1970 specials go for these days, well... I relented. Besides, I have a particular fondness for 1977. Swings and roundabouts - I managed to obtain Warlord Summer Special 1977 for a fiver some months ago; last year, I winged an immaculate copy of Krazy Summer Special 1977 for a tenner. This year, I've bid £15 for Roy of the Rovers Summer Special 1977 on two occasions and lost out. Don't mention Action Summer Special 1977 - that really does command a helluva price. Picked up that hardback Thunderbirds reprint book in Greenwich yesterday. I thought it contained all of Bellamy's stuff but when I got it home I found the first strips - the ones in TV21 that had a third black and white page - were not reprinted. Good value though for £7 - originally £25. Also got Essential Iron Man volume 5 for £5 from same shop.

On Saturday I picked up a Mr Digwell book from the flea market for £1.00 - Daily Mirror gardening book in comic strip form. Drawn by Jack Dunkley who drew the Larks in the Mirror. It looks to be from around 1960 but is not dated.

My Sainsbury's have the rest of the annuals in stock now so I bought The Best of The Beezer. Nice range of strips, including a couple of Leo Baxendale pages.

I didn't buy the Battle Annual. As I thought, it's an abridged version of The Best of Battle that was published several years ago. It seems hastily assembled, as the annual ends on a Johnny Red cliffhanger!

With Christmas approaching and having joined this "Comics Anonymous" forum earlier this year I have to confess l have still not lost the desire to buy comics.Today I treated myself to another comicbook.

THE BIG VIZ BOOK OF ADVENTURE from WHSmith at £10.99p

This is good value with 224 pages with such stories as---------

Ted Rogers in the 25th century
The bravest pony of them all
The Iron Queen Mum
Dan Dare a two page skit
The Pirates of Plymouth Argyle

And many many more.

This is a slight departure from the normal Viz annual and I was going wait to see if I could get it somewhere else at a cheaper price but then to be certain I got a copy ,bought it today.

Love those spoof adventure strips in Viz and I will be definitely investing in the book.

On Saturday I bought the four best of DCT/Pedigree annuals.

Pedigree may have been naughty, actually. They printed two Nancy strips in the Topper edition.

The problem with reprinting those three pagers is pagination. They consist of a double page spread and a page. So if they were collected, every fourth page would have to be blank or a fill in design. Neither would look good.

Looking at that Fireball XL5 page i'd swear they've taken outnsome of the background colour. I read the strip when it was first published in 2065 (chortle) and subsequent reprints and don't remember all that white background. One of my all time favourite comic stories.

When i've read this Thunderbird collection I'll put it on ebay for two or three quid as i just don't have the room for large books. I have almost a full set of TV21 anyway, (plus a dvd collection - which should get me a snarl from Lew). But I did buy the originals so am excused - yes?

Piracy should get a 'snarl' from any comic fan, but I'm past caring. People will continue to support copyright theft whatever I say.

Regarding that Fireball image, as I said on my blog, it looks like the result of trying to bleach out yellowed/tanned paper and going too far with it. Most of the book is far better.

still waiting for 2000 ad Winter Special at my local (well... nearest newsagent that sells 2000 ad) and haven't spotted it. I've seen it on ebay for double the retail price... think i'll wait a bit. I could ask my nearest newsagent proprietor to order it I guess. I would if we actually talked. He doesn't like me, I don't like him but, where 2000 ad is concerned, he's my only hope. But I won't order off him... that's going too far. Whether he would or not were I to ask, I dunno. It won't happen. In the end, I may have to pay double. As for my nearest W H Smith

Finally received my copies of Buster, issues dated 23/5/1987 and 30/5/1987.

Strips from these issues will appear on my blog in my look at the transition from newsprint to the full colour comics of more recent times in the next couple of days.

With the carboot season over I was hoping to cut back on comic spending.No such luck! While in town I visited 7 charity shops and to begin with it was going so well.Because at the third shop I bought--
Topper and Sparky book 1981 for 25p
l should mention the week before at the second shop which is smallish about the size of your average newspaper shop
as well as the woman on the till there was also another woman standing to attention in the middle side of the shop obviously keeping a guarded eye on the stock.Today that same woman was standing there and also an elderly gentleman standing the other side of the room also guarding the stock.I might give it a miss in future because whatever next armed guards! Anyway, at the last shop I went into they had a box of comics and I had difficulty in knowing what to pick and what to leave, finally settling for the following------
