What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
I was on holidays for over a week which prevented me from ordering comics as they would be either sent back or stuck outside in the rain.
I'm back to normal now and just had delivery of 7 items. Unfortunately 1 Buster had a piece cut out so that's for the bin.
The rest of the material I got is as follows:
Buster and FILM FUN 17th November 1962
Buster 14th November 1964
Buster AND THE BIG ONE 18th Sepetember 1965
Guy Fawkes Mask free gift for Buster dated 30th October 1965 (I already have the comic so it's nice to reunite them!)
Buster 8th May 1971
Buster and Monster Fun 22nd January 1977

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Thanks Tommy, I took your advice and walked through the rain to my local collection office, only to find that wheras once it often opened to 12pm on weekdays, now it's only till 10am weekdays and 12 Saturdays only. I wanted scream out loud as I won't be able to check until Saturday ay the earliest now, and I wouldn't have been able to get there in last 2 weeks.
I've had a few Saturdays booked up, with no time to go in that mornings, add to the fact that the office itself in Leigh is miles from the middle of nowhere in a very run down part of the town. It's well away from the bus station and bus routes, meaning a mad dash if I did. My hopes for a chilled out Saturday after a busy long week are dashed yet again yet again.
My mornings have been very, very busy too even early on. I've been so busy with my many Autism group meetings (of which I'm getting more in demand for these) all on early morning start times so I have to allow for travel times. Plus, I've got to vacuum the offices of my support accommodation first in the morning (all part of the package of where I live of which I'm very lucky to have. I do get volunteer's expenses for doing it too). I can sometimes do this in the evenings, but only if there's nothing on in the function rooms at the time, which is very rare. And there's more, in that I've had two early morning dental appointments this week.
Sorry to go on like this but right now am so angry and frustrated at the daft idea to cut the collection offices hours to inconvenient o'clock (for a lot of people it transpires, as I later heard queues on Saturdays are massive, if those people can get there) all to "save money" so the rich directors and dictators can get a bonus. The haves punishing the have-nots who can't afford the most expensive delivery services, which even then may not work and the haves who smirk at the have-nots having a breakdown because of their daft corner and cost cutting systems.

I empathise with your plight DavidKW. I myself have had some nightmares with Royal Mail collections in the past. Hopefully you receive your comics currently in limbo.DavidKW wrote: 07 Aug 2024, 13:49 Thanks Tommy, I took your advice and walked through the rain to my local collection office, only to find that wheras once it often opened to 12pm on weekdays, now it's only till 10am weekdays and 12 Saturdays only. The opening times of my local post sorting office where I have to sometimes go to collect missed deliveries from are a work of fantasy so I completely feel your pain David.DavidKW wrote: 07 Aug 2024, 13:49 Thanks Tommy, I took your advice and walked through the rain to my local collection office, only to find that wheras once it often opened to 12pm on weekdays, now it's only till 10am weekdays and 12 Saturdays only. Did you really throw a 60s Buster away because a panel was clipped? Can't imagine myself doing that.Chalky wrote: 07 Aug 2024, 10:58 I was on holidays for over a week which prevented me from ordering comics as they would be either sent back or stuck outside in the rain.

Hi Stevezodiac,
Regrettably yes I threw it away as it was incomplete. The Ebay seller thankfully refunded me without any fuss. There was a coupon or something similar cut out affecting a story on the reverse. The same thing happened today with another Buster comic but the seller spotted it before they shipped it as I mentioned I am buying it on the assumption it's complete. Both were 1976 issues which are not rare issues.
I once bought Buster no 3 from Silveracre several years ago who's description at the time suggested a nice copy. It arrived guillotined on 3 sides with a panel cut out. After I was refunded I also binned that one as well! I bought another one from them around the same time which had similar problems, I have steered clear from them ever since....

I have loads of comics with pieces missing - better to have a copy than not have one at all! (that's probably just me though).

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Just sourced a Dandy comic no.809 from 1949 in FR condition. It has the elusive Hugh Morren, Just Jimmy, rear cover art panel that I own. It's a bit rough around the edges, granted, but an example needed. Will upload a pic asap.

Completely agree,I also throw them away when they are missing bits,it protects being resold to other collectors.Chalky wrote: 22 Aug 2024, 15:48 Hi Stevezodiac,

Obviously if it is rare I wouldn't destroy it but I do think that when mutiple issues of good quality exist then those missing pages etc should be binned to protect our community.

Thanks jim244. As said, the Dandy's showing its age but the old bird can still sing.jim244 wrote: 25 Aug 2024, 21:45Very nice find Sir !!Into The Abyss wrote: 24 Aug 2024, 10:59 Just sourced a Dandy comic no.809 from 1949 in FR condition. Re: What comics did you buy today?
Any comics I have that are incomplete are not bagged, that way I know straight away they are damaged. Came across an unbagged Cor!! this morning and, wondering why, flipped through it to find booklet pages missing.
