I see the mystery of "blurP" is revealed :!:

Yes, if the person in question had just asked me about the strip instead of taking a jpeg from my site and assuming 'bluP.jpg' was the character's name then it wouldn't have happened. Never mind. Not really any harm done, and he was giving publicity to The Dandy after all.

Back to today: only one of my nearest newsagents had copies in stock. They had three copies and I bought two. To be fair, comics don't sell very well on the nearby council estate anyway (unlike in the 1960s/70s when I was growing up there and comics were the "in" thing) so I can understand why they're reluctant to stock "new" titles.

Hopefully my local Smiths will have a proper display when I check it out later.

Got a copy for the nephews this morning Lew, naturally I had to have a little peak first - the first Dandy I've looked at since 1982. They had about 20 copies in my local store.

I see Bananaman (originally from Nutty) is still there. Liked the madvertisement for the 'iDad'. Your 'Kid Cops' was good, and so true of the 21st century. I did feel sorry for the vase in Postman Prat, especially having been sold for such a large amount on Weeebay. Definitely good that the Dandy has been updated for the new 2010 generation. :)

They know full well what they're doing. A story about things moving forward and being fresh and exciting isn't what the Star thinks their readers want to hear.

Like any newspaper, the Star panders to its audience in order to keep them. Given the number of anti-immigration stories that paper runs I assume they think their audience are mainly stick-in-the-mud types who hate change. (It's like a poor man's Daily Mail.)

Therefore they're bound to do a "Dandy isn't like it was" story, completely ignoring the fact that The Dandy is for children, not them. As long as the story reinforces the prejudices of the grumbling "grr, chey're changing everything these days" types the Star is happy, and, in a strange way, so are their readers.

Still, hopefully some of their readers will be curious enough to take a look and make up their own minds about The Dandy.

Thanks Muffy! Kid Cops was created by the Dandy editorial and it's quite inspired. I write the scripts and draw it but they came up with the concept. I'm having great fun with it, and with Postman Prat.

Dandy website seems to be under construction. At the moment the old Dandy Xtreme frame appears, but it's now at the top left instead of centered, the black background is gone, and so are all four pages (a page not found message appears in a frame where those pages used to appear).

I am doing Jury Service for next 2 weeks so won't be able to post so often :(

But... I bought 3 copies this morning (2 for the kids and 1 for myself) and proudly read my copy in Costa Coffee before court and my verdict?.... Absolutely fantastic!

I am actually going to buy another copy and leave it in the Jury Assembly Room amongst the well-thumbed Readers Digests and Peoples Friend's - that should brighten the seemingly endless waiting times!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the creators, the editorial team and DCT for being bold with this relaunch.

I will let my sons read it as well (they are 12 and 10) and try to post their opinions in next few days but I think they are going to LOVE it!

Footnote - bought my copies from Martin's in Chelmsford, they had 8 copies of which I bought 3. WHSmith (at that stage) had no copies on the shelves but will check again at lunchbreak.

Jury Service? :o I'm surprised you're allowed to use the Internet at all, since you could look up the case and get prejudiced opinions.

That's BBC Radio Manchester. It should also be on iPlayer afterwards.

Digi - we have been ordered by the judge to NOT research the case in any way on the internet or to discuss on Facebook/twitter etc.which, of course, I haven't.

He didn't however go as far as to banning online discussions about The Dandy thankfully!

Lots of Dandys around here. My local Smiths had 28 copies, so I assume they ordered a round figure of 30 to start with. No display stand but they were at the front, on the bottom shelf, albeit partly obscured by Commando. (I moved the Commandos in front of another comic.)

Most other newsagents have it too.

Reaction seems good so far!

I've read it...liked the flavour of it..also some nice puzzles to make the Dandy last longer..
this is a comic worth keeping and rereading..

Lauras done a very unusual manga type one..Shao Lin Punks very unusual style..like the chicken running across..
also the little series looks great..when he was young Wow Comic type But with celebraties..

Also Postman Prat is fun!!

The best of all has to be Harry Hill and Pre Skool Prime Minister liked how he stopped a nuclear war..lol

Also love the different colours on each border..
All the other will develop nicely..

I like the Dandy better than The Beano!!
Great to see zany and silly in large doses in the comics again..

The Dandy is a bit Wow, Krazy, Monster Fun, Tv Comic, Oink, Nipper, Hoot, DFC and Oink rolled into a Dandy!!

That's not by Laura. I don't know who the artist is though. (Full credits would have been a nice bonus.)

Yes, people are making a few comparisons to comics of the past, particularly to the more unconventional ones like Krazy and Oink! Personally I see a bit of Wham! in there too, although the new Dandy definitely has its own identity.
