Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

I don't know if any of you already knew this, but I have just found that John Richardson died recently. Here's a link to a Facebook message from his son.

A brilliant, original and very underrated artist. Rest in peace, and thank you.

Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

Thank you, Comixminx, and thanks also for sending the email address. I'll send you the draft and list as soon as I can.

Thanks also, Colcool. Can you remember anything more about the picture libraries that he did? I've only been able to find the two Judys included in the list.

Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

I can certainly send you a soft copy of the list, Comixminx. I keep it in an Excel spreadsheet, and I could also easily copy it into Word or PDF. Any of these formats would be searchable, but I don’t know how compatible they would be with the Jinty website. If any of these would do, I can send it to...

Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

Thank you, Tammyfan. I think I saw this series some time ago when hunting for Happy Days stories, but had forgotten about it. Richardson wasn't the regular artist, but did several numbers as filler. The series ran from 18 March to 5 August 1972, and as far as I can tell, Richardson did four of them....

Re: Susy - French Comic

It may be worth looking at more of the website I linked above. This page, which shows the Primevere series titles, has a column down the left hand side which allows you in to lists of many other series, which all seem to be picture libraries. Quite a few of the titles or covers are familiar from the...

Here's another one that has a familiar look.

Moira Kent and the Missing Star was Bunty PSL 7.

Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

Thank you, Tammyfan. That's quite a find, as he did so few serials. If you find the start and end dates, please let me know.

Re: John Richardson’s artwork in girls’ comics

Thanks Tammyfan, I'll add it to the list. What's the date of the issue this story is in? Is it a Strange Story?

Re: Worst problem parents in girls serials

There was a story in an annual somewhere called “Jumping Jo”, where Dad is pushing Jo into being an air stewardess while she wants to go into athletics. She strikes out on her own and wins lots of medals. But in the end she bows to her father’s wishes. I was very disappointed there. The story was i...

Re: Worst problem parents in girls serials

I remember that PSL. It was drawn by Ron Lumsden. Yes, and he was on brilliant form. Probably because he was so good at facial expression and body language, Lumsden seems mostly to have been given "relationship" stories (betrayal, jealousy, prejudice etc plus soaps), and did comparatively few sport...

Re: Worst problem parents in girls serials

I’m still not familiar with all that many serials, but I’d like to put a word in for Jinty’s Ping-Pong Paula , who is saddled with a mother whose snobbery, greed, jealousy and obstinate blinkered stupidity must be exceptional even in a very crowded field. For those who don’t know the story, there's ...

Re: Looking for first appearance of Miss Bigger

Bessie was reprint in the Old Friends slot. Sue, Molly and Tansy were new. The new Sue episodes were drawn by John Johnston. Thanks for providing John Johnston's name, Tammyfan. I had come across an artist who was new to me in some of the Wee Sue Old Friends stories (January and April 1982), and pr...

Re: Looking for first appearance of Miss Bigger

Can anyone please provide a scan of Wee Sue after she was moved into the "Old Friends" slot during the Tammy & Jinty merger 1981-82? Thank you. Here is the one from 12 December 1981. I have a couple of others from around the same time, but this is the only one with the "Old Friends" logo. It's also...
