1930s mystery artist

Post by Corsham »

Hello, I have a couple of original watercolour drawings which look like they're 1930s, a group of animals, signed Tony [something - maybe Spen?] Link to photos below.

One is captioned Hoorah! Off to Corsham! and the other Hullo! Here were are NIP!

Can anyone identify the comic characters or the artist?

Could the artist's name be Tony Speer? There was an artist of that name who drew for Sparky in the 1960’s, and had a long career in girls’ comics from the 60’s to the late 80’s. This presumably isn’t him (his signature is also quite different), but could it perhaps be his father? As usual, there’s very little biographical information available.

Hi Goof, thanks for your message, it's hard to make out the signature. I was hoping the animal characters might ring a bell with someone.
