Girl picture libraries

Does anybody know how many issues there were of Girl picture library? These were published from around 1984 by IPC/Fleetway and featured complete 64 page stories. The stories were reprints from Jinty, Tina, Tammy etc. I've only come across these recently and (yet again!) have started collecting them. I know there were at least 30 but I wondered how many there were exactly.

I always seem to be asking questions - maybe I can answer some one day!

All I can add is that the first issue featured the phenomenally successful "Patty's World" from Princess Tina, written by Englishman Philip Douglas and drawn by the female Spanish artist Purita Campos. The last I heard Purita's Spanish publisher was engaged in a protracted dispute with IPC over ownership of her artwork.

Hi Brenda - welcome to the gang!

Here are two issues I picked up from a dealer who was selling loads (as well as Judy, Bunty, etc.) for just 50p each at the last Memorabilia Fair in Birmingham's NEC:



As far as I know all of the stories are reprinted from earlier Picture Libraries, or collect serials from old Fleetway weeklies. On the strength of these two examples, however, they are nicely drawn and highly readable.

All these previously appeared in Tammy, Jinty and Princess Tina, most of them under different story titles. They're all (well mostly - I never liked "The Perfect Princess"/"Princess Wanted" story when I first read it) a really good read and have some great artwork. I finished my collection!! Last week I got the final number missing!! (num. 25), and twoi weeks earlier I got the other one (23 I think). so I have finished it! In the process I got some extra numbers, in case someone is missing any!

Well done, Ruth! It took me a while to complete my collection and I had to buy quite a few doubles in the process - it was worth it though as it's pretty easy to find buyers for these very collectable picture libraries.
