HOW TO STORE ANNUALS?

I have just obtained a large amount of Beano and Dandy annuals, mostly in very fine condition, from the mid 1960s onwards....got them laughably cheap!..because they are in such good condition I would like to keep them that way!...so what I would like to know is....what is the best way to store these annuals to keep them in peak condition?..should I keep them in protective bags? if so where can I get these from?..also, should I store them flat on top of each other, or is it best to keep them on edge in a bookcase? don't store them on top of each other,keep them out of direct sun light and dust them.

Ooopppps....thanks for that...I've got them all stacked on top of each other at the moment!..I shall unstack them pronto. Is it ok to put them on their edge in a closed bookcase?...or would it be best to get some sort of filing system with lots of individual shelves so that they could lay flat but not on top of each other...if you know what I mean!...by the way, anyone know anything about them protective plastic sleeves?...cheers, Terry.

I'll be offering protective plastic sleeves when my shop, the Superhero Store, opens in September. If you only want a few (i.e. less than 50), contact me and I'll send you details of how I can send them to you (i'm still in the middle of a move, so be patient).

May I suggest storing comics, annuals etc in filing cabinets. Beneficial as there is not the acid to be had from cardboard or wood. There are, though, comic boxes also available. Depends if you want them displayed or stored.

Similar items appear sometimes in the Book and Magazine Collecter. Cheap alternative is to keep annual in plastic bag (perhaps cut carefully from junk mail catalogue etc) and seal with peel-off tape to keep out dust and prevent foxing. I clean grubby covers with a 'fresh wipe' and polish dry with sheet of kitchen paper towel.

Annual storage it's quite the problem. I only have a few hundred and it's quite scary how much space they take up. I don't know how collectors get on when their collections run into the thousands. I have enough trouble finding room for my regualr comics.
