PRINTED NAMES OR INFERIOR QUALITY

I've managed to obtain a few doubles in my collection recently, and was planning on ebaying a few of them shortly. However a few of them have the name written on the top of the copy while the other copy is of an inferior quality other than that. I want to keep the most collectable example but what makes the most amount of difference to a comics value?

I used to wonder about this, but then one day at a Comic Fair I came across two copies of the same issue of Lion I was after. One had an address pencilled in at the top, the other didn't but was quite dishevelled in appearance. I opted for the copy name the address on it and believe I made the right choice. Simply because the quality of the comic overall was far superior to the dishevelled one.

Not only that but I feel that the writing on the top adds a little bit to the history of that particular comic and gives it some character.

In US comic grading, a name on the cover makes a larger difference. British comics are very rarely NM due to paper quality (a well kept copy will rarely be above FN), so a name is much more preferable to soiling. There is a completely different British grading system but no-one ever seems to use it (involving A1s and C3s etc).
