What comics did you buy today?

SC, it is a fantastic deal and a great starter pack. The Annuals are a good example as I have rarely seen any of the 1960's Annuals go for less than £5, let alone £10 and let's not talk about the specials as not one of them is often obtained for single figures...

Issue No 2 is almost as expensive as No 1 and I have still to get hold of a copy myself. Some of the comics I have gotten cheaper, but others have cost me a lot more!

If you have the money and want them, then I can't argue with that price per issue, but shelling out that amount in one go would scare me! I did look at that lot and think about it, but as I only have 70 odd issues to collect and all of them are prior to 1967, this lot is a bit of a curate's egg for me. The reason I looked at it was fairly obvious (I don't have issue 2 nor the 1992 Summer Special) to me but could I objectively value them at £250 each? I don't think so.

I almost forgot to say. If I was you, I would make the guy an offer and try and knock the price down a bit.

It's very tempting, nearly buying most of thel Victors in one go, if I still didn't need around 40 various comics for my own collection I would probably buy them.

I'd never buy comics off Ebay without seeing photos of what you're considering buying. Some sellers' ideas of 'great condition' can be highly questionable. I'd ask for images before paying any kind of high price.

I am very often disapointed with comics after buying them on ebay even with a picture, specially if they forget to say the centre pages are missing or a cut out on one of the pages.

No I'm not buying them can't afford them any way, unless I win the lottery tonight

Good point, well presented! If someone is asking for that sort of money, an image or three wouldn't go amiss. Especially when you see that he has put images onto the rest of his Ebay items.

I do get annoyed if I get a comic that is missing pages, especially if that hasn't been mentioned in the description. The good sellers have the decency to be mortified, but some of the rest need a kick up the proverbial to note that it is misrepresentation to sell anything in good condition, when it is clearly not.

Yes, if there's no image I always wonder if there's a reason for that.

I've recently received comics from Ebay where every page is badly dog-eared at the bottom and top, sometimes with two deep folds for each corner, and the inside is loose - the most obnoxious kind of damage, but described quite differently in the listing, and no sign of it in the image. Even with pics, it can be misleading.

Usually when people sell big collections for very high prices, there are a series of images, often from different angles, and I think that kind of thing's essential.

I must admit that I prefer an image to a description of "Excellent condition for its age". There is only one seller that I do trust to sell without images and that is davidt56. He is slowly selling his collection, and the first one that I bought from him, I feared would be in poor condition. But when I got them, they were in good to fine condition. As a result, I have gotten a lot of great bargains from him as most other collectors have not been brave enough to trust his lots due to the lack of imagery.

I must admit that I prefer an image

I had to deal with this problem just this last week. I was tracking a couple of individual issues of Mandy, both from the same seller. One had an image posted, the second did not. Suspecting that there was something unpresentable about the second one, I emailed the seller with my concerns. I got a message back within the hour. The seller had not realised there was no picture of the cover posted and informed me that the advert had been amended immediately to include it. They both looked OK so I bid on them, and duly won them. When they arrive, if there is anything wrong with them, I will let you know.

Hi Peter. Just to avoid any more disappointments re tabloid Buster's and none tabloid editions here below is the comics early printing history

True tabloid 16pgs (with full colour front, back and centre) 28/5/60-20/6/64
True tabloid 20pgs (full colour cover, red/black pgs 7/14, blue/black rear) 27/6/64-20/2/65
True tabloid 20pgs (Buster and Big One) (full colour cover, blue/yellow centre, red/blue/black rear) 27/2/65-29/5/65
Reduced tabloid (colours as above) 5/6/65-10/7/65
Reduced tabloid (full colour cover otherwise b/w) 17/7/65-23/10/65
Then from 30/10/65 size adopted that would be used for the rest of the 1960's.

Yes sorry that's what I ment, in the family section it said that 'The Big one' was 5" bigger then Topper, so it really is a big one,might have to buy some.

Well today, or rather last night, I bought 8 lots of 4 of 1985 Warlord (and yes Phoenix, I will be hitting 30th Century and 26 pigs to fill in the final gaps) so 32 issues of Uncle Peter will be winging their way to me rather soon. Now to finish off my Crunch collection with only 6 issues to go! I must start getting some scans online, but the Mrs has kidnapped the camera!
