On Saturday I picked up an old b&w monthly horror comic called Psycho (issue 2 to be exact). Now this is a completely new one on me. It was published by Top Sellers and cost twenty pence (which i'm thinking put's it sometime in the late 1970's/early 80's). There is no other info than that. Does anyone know/remember the title? Were the strips U.S. reprints? Were there any U.K. strips in there? Any help would be appreciated.

Ahh Psycho a blast from the past - The Top Sellers editions were UK reprints of the more popular (are far better) US magazines published by SKYWALD PUBLISHING. Top Sellers also published (re packaged) their other 2 big titles SCREAM and NIGHTMARE - As far as I'm aware these were all US material . The original US editions were far superior similar to Warrens Creepy etc (maybe not as good more gory and less clever than Warren to me)HJowever you got the odd good artist slike Sutton, Everett , Reese etc in these books. Skywald also published the original HEAP (the first muck monster a la Swamp Thing)- As the popularity of Marvels Black and Whites grew Skywald try to do superheros abd came up with the short lived Hell Rider a motor cylce horror type hero but although well drawn it wasnt that good. Best to track down the Warren editions far superior Top Sellers were very thin and at 20p this was prett high at the time (early mid 1970s)

Paul - I had forgotten all about those books and I used to read them as well as you say pretty gory stuff - I remember seeing the adverts in Nightmare etc for Hell Rider and it looked good - was Skywald the same company that published Thrilling Adventure Stories and Tales of the Macrabe in the 1970s as well.

Janus - No Seaboard were the publishers of those 1970s US black and whites (also Devilina and a few others) the same compnay that published the Atlas Comics group of which thes B&W mags were a part off.
