WAS THE 1980'S THE GOLDEN AGE OF COMICS??????

The general decline in numbers of different weeklies throughout the 80's and 90's means they can never be regarded as true "golden ages". There's definitely a feeling of experimentation and exhilaration about the 50's and 60's up to perhaps the beginning of 1970s but for me the three day week and the disappearance of many titles either temporarily or permanently and seemingly weekly changes in paper quality and printers made comic collecting a grim business after that. And then the introduction of colour in the 90's made them attractive again. Pity it seems to have been too late for the IPC comics. Imagine COR!! or SMASH! in full colour!!!

I still think there is a market out there for a good traditional type UK comic - as you say JD using colour printing nice pape rand even with some reprint material - I doub there will ever be a new UK newstand comic (possibl;y a direct sales on or "new" all reprint on ea la Marvel etc)- Even a good quality , colour UK reprint comic would be good one done well this time.

Remember Dicky quinn tried to put one together in about 1989? He touted it around for ages, but it never got anywhere.

The problem with today is that comics have been overtaken by computer games. We all loved our comics whether it be Battle or Warlord & they now say kids aren't interested in war stories anymore. But ask any kid if his played Medal of Honour on his PS2 or XBox they would say yes. I would say a good adventure weekly in the style of Striker incorporating characters say from Medal of Honour could really lift off the weeklys again.

I have to say I find computer art boring (even Striker)BUT I agree its what the kids seem to want maybe seeign it done as wwar as opposed to Super heros might work better alhough the US comics done in this style, for me , have lacked something (Heros, humour, SF and Fantasy) but your rights time to move on this is the kids new medium.
