On the subject of Disney I'm not really a big fan either but yesterday on eBay I "won" a copy of Mickey Mouse weekly No.100 from 1938 for just £4.95. I can't understand why more people didn't bid on it, being a classic British comic and one of the first to regularly feature full colour. It's the New Year issue too.

went today to the 30th Century Comic shop

bought a falling apart Topper comic Quartermain on the back by Dudley 1955 for £2
some 1962 Beezers x4 just love Leo's Banana Bunch also the title panels are very different each week..
and a 1964 Beano comic Dec 19th General Jumbo annoyingly ends on a cliff hanger in the next issue the Christmas Beano..he has broke his aerial so none of his toy soldiers work.. and a Polar Bear is after him on a window ledge with a huge drop....
can anyone help with the ending of this...I liked the dark shadows and mood of it.
spent £15 in total..

Not exactly "today", in fact over two weeks ago, but i returned on Monday from Japan to find a couple of issues of The Boys Herald from 1904 and a bound volume of around 10 issues of late 40's Sexton Blake Library awaiting me. The bound volume contains the issues in very good condition and neatly bound, almost as if it's supposed to be like that. It sits on the shelf alongside the brand-new Sexton Blake Detective book which was published on september 1st this year!

The Boys Herald mostly contained serials, like it's companion The Boys' Friend. But they also contained a complete story in each issue, so i'll give one of those a read some day.

So was the new Jack of Fables! (Well, it does have a Brian Bolland cover :) ). And I got the latest Book & Magazine Collector yesterday with its Ashford/Wright feature on Alan Philpott (no.32 in their excellent British Comic Artists series), including a very comprehensive list of his work for titles like Victor and Hornet.

I didnt buy anything today (actually this week) but I was in Bargin Books (or whatever its called now) in Byres Rd Glasgow yesterday and they had a "shop copy" of the Beano 70 years book (the large copy book with text and old strips with Denis' face on the cover- if that makes sense) the cover was ripped at the spine and detatched (well it was after I dropped it lol) the price £3 - didnt pick it up as not really interested in this type of thing and got way to many books / comics as it is but any fans locally should have a look- they also had the 2009 Hot Shot Hamish annula for £3 (but already got that one)

That's either Crazy About Creatures or Comics In The Classroom, the last two years' entries in the 70 years series.

No it wasn't the normal best of annual series, this was the really large book with the close up of Denis' face on it - quite a thick book and not quite square with lots of text and strips on it-Sorry Beano is not an interest of mine the original price as about £50.

That's not the real cover steelclaw. Here's the real one.

Also, while it was released for the 70th birthday, it's not a 70 years book as you implied STARBOY. Trouble is, both the 70 years books I mentioned also had Dennis on the cover, so you should've been more specific. Oh well, looks like it's been identified anyway.

An excellent book. Very useful info and interesting features, and four completely reproduced issues of the comic (from 1938, 1950, 1954 and 1958)!

Well to be fair to myself my inane rambling on the title of the book was self evident in my text - my feeble brain couldn't have been any more specific Im afraid lol - Sorry but I'm not a Beano fan so the plethora of Books that seem (to me) to come out on Dennis and the Beano are all Greek to me - I just thought £3 was pretty good price for any book (that intersrts folk). I did get the Gorillas (the band) "big book" (thats my complete description of this book ) last month for £7 in Fopp though that was really good - well the art was.
