DANDY annual 2010 - Nothing Xtreme about it!

Post by NP »

This year's Dandy annual is all strips, all new, and is a real good read. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't get one, it's exactly the sort of thing comic strip fans will love!

I'll second that. It's really packed with quality art and fun stories. Top effort from everyone involved.

Hi Nigel,

Yes, GT, as ever. But watch they don't sell your desk - I mean, taking more than a week off? Slacker!

Not a Jamie Smart fan then steelclaw? He took over drawing Dan last year. A big change from Dudley Watkins and Ken Harrison, true, but weird? Not the word I'd choose.

After reading this thread I had a look at the Dandy annual when visiting my mum (went for a trip to the shops) - have to say it looks really good (not a massive kids comic fan but this is good). I would have to say IMHO Jamies art is weird , in a good way though (love his stuff) very strange - can I ask who drew the Bannanaman strip it's amazing - looks to Tom P at the height of his considerable skills is it? (will pick it up for this alone - although from looking through it all the art looks amazing - a modern classic from cover to cover)

The characters on Yoplait Wildlife yogurt pots. That's about it. He's a newcomer to the scene it seems. Not even got a Wikipedia article yet, but I found this (outdated) info on the Bananaman article:
Chris McGhie is the latest artist to take on Bananaman and his re-invention of the character with his own style will appear in The Dandy in the second half of 2008. Chris' other work includes The Three Bears for the Beano (in 2002) and the characters on Yoplait's 'Wildlife' product range.

I think he also drew the illustrations for Rhyme Time in the Beano around 2001-2002, before Duncan Scott (Colin the Vet, Doctor Loo, The Neds etc.) took over. He did take over The Three Bears from Mike Pearse in 2002 as well, and drew them in the 2004 annual. I also believe that he's drawn Korky the Cat for a Dandy Summer Special.
