What Annuals/Comics did you get that you didn't buy before christmas?

I got Beano, Dandy, and Dr Who Annuals.

I didn't get any comics/books at all this Xmas first in a long time - was wanting the Dandy Beano best of annual but its sold out in my area (that'll teach me) I did pick up a cheap (half price) Dandy Annual beforehand which I gave to a neighbours kid (forgot to ge thim anything he loved it, no wonder the best UK kids annual in years IMHO) I got the Watchmen DVD (comic related) and plan to get some back issues with Xmas money

You should be able to get Beano/Dandy Winter Games online. Try WHSmith and Waterstones, they should both have their sales on now, so it should be cheap (half price or even cheaper).

When the Comics went to War, Football's Comic Book Heroes, Best of Battle and of course the latest volume in the Charley's War series. I also got IOU's for 1001 Comics you must read and the first in the Johnny Red series.

All in all a nice haul especially as the annuals will no doubt follow from the Jan Sales.

It does help that my better half works in a bookshop!!!!

The Top Gear Annual... i suppose that counts as a comic!

Not too bad this year i got for christmas when comics go to war ,commando battle of britain , the man who drew tomorrow ,charleys war one and two , tv21 vol 3 , mammoth books of horror and zombie comics ,metal men vol 2 and the photo guide to marvel comics k to z plus the new airfix book next year lets hope we get rick ramdon vol 2 and more books on classic british comics like victor and lion

I got the Broons/Oor Wullie annual and the 1970's Roy Of The Rovers. The only jarring bit to the second is that most of the adverts seem to be from the 1960's. A deliberate ploy by Titan or are they just messing with my head?

Not a lot really - Beano, Dennis and Bash St Kids annuals.

However, I did get a good book on the Art of Wallace and Gromit, which while not really comic related, still features some very nice artwork, including original Nick Park sketches and drawings, such as early renditions of Wallace and Gromit themselves, and the penguin from The Wrong Trousers (Feathers McGraw), amongst others.

I had the Best of Battle and the Dandy/Beano Winter Games books. I knew I was getting them as I had to buy them myself and pass them on to relatives to "give" to me.
This resulted in a situation I had`nt foreseen. At our large family gatherings we take it in turn to open gifts and scrutinise what everyone has had and the looks on the faces of those gathered round me were a picture. They ranged from mild amusement, pity and downright scorn!
My neice`s partner ( late twenties ) thought there had been a gift mix up and one distant male relative said he knew I was into Science Fiction and fantasy and was`nt I a bit old for comics? ( I`m 55 )
I explained that as a child most of our " disposable income " was spent down the pub and as an adult I vowed to catch up on all the things I never had as a child. I added that I discovered that older comics were history books reflecting life as it was then, attitudes to authority, closer community ties and enjoying the simple things in life.
Why did I feel I had to defend something that gives me great pleasure?

Don - I had a real chuckle when I read your posting. I can identify with what you said entirely. Like your family our christmas tradition involves opening our pressies all together.Whilst my wife now thinks nothing of me wanting a beano or dandy annual or the best of the rovers etc for christmas other family members just dont get it and I get looks ranging from bewilderment to even snobbish snide remarks.

Im 47 years old Ive never really stopped loving british comics. Sometimes you would think that I have just confessed to being a wife beater. Also I hate the fact that it is more acceptable to say you are intertested in american comics than the british ones.

For anybody else who failed to get the Beano/Dandy Winter Games Book I noticed that the local branch of Poundland had loads on sale today for just a pound each! Sometimes it really is worth waiting. (I also got the Bunty Book from Smiths for an exorbitant £1.99)

Excellent news Phil thanks for that info - I will check out the Local Poundlands on Saturday when the shops open - Strangely I used to get more hassle for collecting comics (US and UK ones) when I was in my late teens up till my 30s. Now folk never say anything although that may be as I emphasise the collecting side of my hobby to them rather than the fact I read a good few titles as well lol - Id rather spend my pennies on comics than down the pub (although I do that as well) and my girlfriend finds it "cute" & "quirky" so it's not all bad.
