Tich and quackers
Tich and quackers
Does anyone know who was the artist who drew the Tich and Quackers strip in TV comic?
Hoping you guys (and girls) can help.

Re: Tich and quackers
While looking this up, I found that Tony Hart had worked on TV Comic, and was the puppeteer for Quackers. Apparently he didn't draw that strip though, for some reason.

Re: Tich and quackers
Funnily enough I was at my flat at the weekend stashing stuff away and I thought "this bag is heavy" it was my TV Comics collection. If nobody can answer the question I'll have a look on Saturday. Was it Blll Titcombe? I can't visualise the art - but then my TV Comics have been in storage for 14 years so that explains it.
Once I get everything sorted and all the junk disposed of I'll move in permanently and be able to delve into my collection a lot more.

Colonel, you and Venus will probably find it was your old friend Neville Main.

Re: Tich and quackers
Well I looked through about 30 Tich & Quackers strips last night and at first I thought it was Dick Millington but after comparing with several Mighty Moths I decided against it. Whoever it was drew several TV Comic strips but he hasn't signed or initialled his work. Not Neville Main. Here is a teaser for T&Q though. I think the artist also drew The TV Terrors, if you look at Tich's Boot here you can see the similarity with Hoppit's.
Re: Tich and quackers
The TV Terrors artist was Bill Titcombe.

Maybe early on but not in its later years. From 1970 onwards at least, Titcombe was drawing Tom and Jerry, Barney Bear and Animal Magic in TV Comic, but not TV Terrors which has quite a different style from his in all the issues I've seen.
In 1973, the Tich and Quackers art does have similarities to the TV Terrors art.
In the Tich and Quackers comic strip, schoolboy Tich goes out having adventures with his pet duck Quackers, and there's a recurring enemy in a posh boy named Percy - but does anyone know what the format of the TV show was? As they were both Ray Alan's ventriloquist dummies, presumably it was much more static? Was it like stand-up or sketches (in one strip, Ray runs a sweet shop - was that from the show?), and did Quackers speak?

Re: Tich and quackers
There was very limited action and a lot of dialogue. I have vague memories of a set in a farmhouse. Quackers only ever quacked, but in the same way that Sweep squeeked. i.e quack quack quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak. If you get my gist.
Re: Tich and quackers
Thanks for the memories. I was wondering how they stretched it out to a whole show. Maybe they were just ten or fifteen minuters, though?
Re: Tich and quackers
Thanks very much everyone for all the info, I loved the advert in TV comic for Tich and Quackers. Now that it was mentioned I think it was Bill that drew the strip.
