What comics did you buy today?

Yeah I agree the Beezer comic and the annuals were my favourite DCT comics as a kid, the 1967 Beezer Annual is one I was particularly fond of and kept for years (the 1966 one being one of my Favourie DCT annual of all time) - great stuff

Interesting...this comic ended in 1963 yet by your photo,Annuals were still being produced up to 1973.Wonder if the content in the Annuals was still old school 1950s style or did they modernise the content to some extent?

We had a local summer fete on Saturday and one stall had some old IPC & Thomson books! I got two near mint Sparky books 1972 & 79 and, in `lesser condition` Dandy Book 1959 and Beanos 1960 & 1962.

Sparky's were 50p each! The Dandy 1959 & Beano 1962 were £2 each as they were VG I suppose! The Beano 1960 had just under inch of top of spine missing-apart from that VG too! It was £1. So £7 well worth it!

I had 1-2 Beezer annuals and they were among MY favourite comics as a kid! Even though the comic had ended years before i could read and the annual was an old one from a car boot.

I have a 70's Girls Crystal annual and it has an old-fashioned text boarding school story "modernised" (barely) with some value in old money being changed to "but that's nearly 75p!". I don't know if the story was actually a reprint or just one written in an old style.

There was also a reprint of Princess Anita too, though that is pretty timeless. For some reason it was re-named "Romantic Princess" and the reproduction was horrible! Must have been shot from an older annual rather than original art. Shame as the art on the strip was beautiful.

I noticed that the 1959 Dandy & 1960 Beano books were 128 pages content and neither were laminated; however-the 1962 Beano book was 144 pages `and` Laminated! So! Did the increase to 144 pages and Lamination commence in 1960 (for `1961` books) or in 1961, for books called the 1962 issue?

The other day a book arrived called "Once Upon A Time - The Boys Book of Adventures", it's from the Religious Tract Society (they of Boys' Own Paper fame) and the ebay seller reckoned it was from 1910, though i can't see a date. Looking at the style of the illustrations it could possibly even be from the other side of 1900, heaps of cross hatching!

Either way it contains stories reprinted from another magazine called The Leisure Hour which are supposedly true tales of adventure "told by those who had passed through them". I'll reserve judgement until i actually read them though!

I also recently got a 1918 Union Jack - No 762 containing a story called "In Sheeps Clothing - or, The Mollan Case". The hysterical anti-German ravings of AP in the early years of the war had by this time been replaced by a small War Bonds advert on one page. Though doubtless the villain of the tale will turn out to be either German or helping them.

And today i receieved another UJ, Number 1100 from 1924. This one containing a tale called "The Latin Quarter Mysteries", set in Paris.

Went to the comic mart on Sunday and Phil Clarke had bought a huge collection of comics and bound volumes. I spent over £500 but £200 of it was on more Wally Robertson original pencil roughs. Picked up about 30-40 comics from 1910s-1930s. He had hundreds left so I'll get some more next time.

Yesterday the 1911-12 volume of Chums arrived, it's in fantastic condition (though the covers are a little loose from the first pages) and contains the 1000th issue! I ought to bump that old "comic milestones" thread, i have the first issue on it.

Today, my splurging was on 17 Hornets from '72/73 to plug a few more gaps and a nice eclectic 60's collection of Adventure papers of 3 Victors, 3 Hornets, 2 Rovers, a Rover and Adventure, 2 Rover and Wizard and a Hurricane. Nice!

It would have been more, but the lot that I wanted to win was a local pickup only in Kent and would have been nice to win, but I am not really up to fighting my way through traffic on my time off as I get enough of it during the working week!

This was more a case of fortune favours those who get to their emails in time! So, I decided to put a slightly better light on it than Feck! I could have escaped for a few hours there!
