Doctor Who artist identity?

Does anyone recognise the artist from this Dr Who strip in one of the 1970s Polystyle specials?







The style is quite simple, and it struck me it may be an artist who would normally work on one of Polystyle's younger reader titles, such as 'Playland'? Or (going out on a limb here) the style is similar to some of the girl comics, and I wondered if anyone more familiar with those recognises the work?

Some of those pages almost have a look of Mike Hubbard's wash style - though if it is him he must have been working for a lot less than his normal page rate and turned in a rather rushed job as a result. Do you know which year this was drawn in?

Do you mean the same Mike Hubbard who drew 'Jane Bond'? Interesting supposition. i always thought his style was a lot tighter though.

Interestingly, the other two artists in this special - one of whom I have identified, and the other I have a strong hunch about - also seem to be rush jobs.

Not just Jane Bond but also the Daily Mirror's original Jane comic strip which he took over from Norman Pett. The date would certainly fit as Jane Bond came to an end in February 1970 and Pixie, for which he subsequently drew a number of colour strips, folded in 1973. He died in June 1976, leaving him plenty of time to draw this Doctor Who strip, and as he would have been in his seventies by then it's hardly surprising if his work had lost some of its tightness.

That's obvious, considering Sarah Jane Smith joined the Tardis in 1973, and the Doctor regenerated in 1974. This must be mere months before Tom Baker's debut.

Looking at the artwork, pretty good likeness of Jon Pertwee, but not so good on Lis Sladen. Hardly surprising to be honest, if it was a rush job.
