So much hate for Clint everywhere I look, I grew tired of it months ago. Now if you all said "well I don't really like the comic strips", fair enough, I won't argue. But not buying it and dissing it because Mark Millar is a bit of an arsehat or you don't like the articles is a bit silly. I really don't like readers sections in the Beano with its horrible Lego Dennis or a Billy Whizz drawing that looks like a deformed potato but I'll still pick it up every week for the comic strips.

And do you buy every magazine that comes out to find out if you like it or not?

I'm not going to buy Antiques Monthly, as I have no interest in what the title says about the magazine. Likewise, the articles will also be of zero interest and, if it starts criticising something that I enjoy, I'm even less likely to pick it up.

Similarly, if someone calls their magazine c*nt, boasts comedians that I don't enjoy both in interviews and writing comics, has articles that aim the mag fairly'n'squarely at the lads mag generation and criticises comics I like, then why would I spend money on something like that 'just in case' it's completely different to the advertising?

I once had a character innocently called Clint in a Fleetway comic and did my own word balloons. I remember the first time I saw the printed comic they'd shortened the foot of the 'L' so there was a big space before the 'I' and it now read 'CL INT'. To me, it just drew attention to something I hadn't even noticed before!

Strangely I actually like Mark Millar, Frankie Boyle, (although his last show was awful in places IMHO) J Ross etc but CLiNT, as a magazine/comic just doesn't do it for me at all. Instead of being the wild and on the edge book I think the publishers etc thought it would be it's the biggest "yawn fest" I ve read in many a year just (an attempted) style over content. I bought the first 4 issues and that's me. Not sure if many folk have commented on CLiNT without knowledge of the book itself (if so I don't get that, it's a bit like the people on here that said they had never read a US comic in their lives but that they hated them??_) however, you can get the jist of CLiNT from the contents as it is so focused on a "type"/format(ie Frankie Boyle shock stuff). Roll on "STRIP". Totally agree with Chris over the name, a bad idea that has misfired (and a bit puerile from such a talented guy)

I saw an issue in Forbidden Planet the other day that had a cover that was entirely comic strip artwork and no photos! A small step in the right direction even if I'm still not going to be swayed into buying it.

Is the end nigh for Clint? Received my latest sporadic sub issue today (despite signing up for 13 issues a year, I really must check my bank statement to see how many direct debits I have actually paid!) - Seems there is only 9 issues a year now, every six weeks - no real mention of it other that Mark Millar saying "see you in six weeks" and the sub page now offering 9 issue yearly subs.

It all seemed to go pear shaped over Christmas when the mag just didnt appear for two months!

Hmm, I really must check that bank statement, pesky direct debits!

I saw "how's Clint doing?" in another thread, but will reply here to prevent derailment. (Also I can't remember where it was!). Anyway I had another flick recently and was pleasantly surprised to see that the moronic articles and features have been knocked on the head and the magazine is now almost all comic strips!

I quite liked the material I saw in the first few issues of Clint I saw, plus the 'new strip' thing for budding strips and artists which could draw (no pun intended) talent out of the woodwork, if there were a market for it. Indeed, I thought Clint had folded until I saw a new issue a couple of weeks ago.

But, like many others, I have had to tighten my belt and cut back on the many publications I used to purchase regularly: SFX, Sci-Fi Now, Star Trek, Doctor Who Adventures, and the Comic Magazine, which still seems to be going strong. Plus any random buys. No lack of interest in the genres but times are increasingly uncertain on the job front and I'm having to put money aside for possible bad times ahead...

And a bit like the TV ad some years ago which showed a young guy out with his mates in a pub, thoroughly enjoying his first pint of Guinness, bought for him without him being told what it was. When he was informed he looked horrified and said, But I don't like Guinness. Thinking outside the box at its best. A brilliant advert.

Can't judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, a magazine by it's name. Most non-licensed comics have rather abstract names. Beano, Dandy, Toxic, do any of those actually describe the content? No. But kids see the famous characters on the covers, and hopefully want to buy them. That's why it's impossible to shift Dennis the Menace from the Beano's cover, it's him, and not the name of the comic, that attracts the kids. Toxic uses the latest TV and film stars for the same purpose, likewise Dandy with it's current celebrity homages and parodies. Although marketed at adults, Clint's covers are done similarly to attract new readers.

Clint has used Kick-Ass on five of it's 10 covers so far, probably to cash in on last year's movie as well as to advertise the sequel they've been running. Quite right too, as it's probably their most famous feature. What they all also do is use headlines to advertise other contents on the cover. They don't rely on the name to sell the magazine. Unfortunately, missing advertised publication dates can't have helped their reputation any.

Admittedly, when I bought the first issue last year, I was not particularly enthused. I didn't like the front cover nor could I get into the strips.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago: I went to Forbidden Planet in Croydon on the remote hope of getting the first issue of Strip Magazine. It wasn't there but instead saw a couple of issues of CLiNT. Seeing that one of the issues was Number 1 with an alternate (better) front cover, I decided this was better than nothing and bought them (the other being issue 11).

I took them home, read them and found I actually enjoyed them. I thought the strips (both artwork and story) were good and I liked the Robert Kirkman interview - I'm a Walking Dead fan (both comic and TV).

So I have just bought the other issues off eBay so I can give it a fair assessment. Issue 12 with its cover looks really good.

Issue 12 will be released in America a day before it comes out here.

Well today, I successfully bid for CLiNT #1 (for 99p plus p&p) which means I now have all 12 issues (all thanks to eBay).
Now that I have given it a fair shake, it does stand up to the likes of 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine and so will be getting it regularly. However, I won't be subscribing (£51 is a bit much to pay in one go) and instead will continue to buy it from eBay (Issue 12 I got at cover price and free p&p).
