£680k for Spidey

Post by stevezodiac »

This was in the Metro newspaper today plus a couple of the tabloids. I wonder how mint is mint?

Wasn't Action Comics No.1 beaten only about a week later by Detective Comics no. ...er, whatever one Batman first appeared in?

Detective Comics 27 I think - yes that's correct it did go for more than Action 1. My mate Steve only paid £15 for his Amazing Adult Fantasy 15 but that was about 30 years ago and he said its nowhere near mint.

There's a copy of Detective 27 for sale on eBay at the moment for one pence...

...one pence under £40,000 that is.

One penny, pence is plural. (Hows that for pedantry?) In the 60s a schoolmate gave me Tales of Suspense 39 (first Iron Man) I had no idea of its value or importance and got rid of it.

That's a very common mistake still widely-heard today, 40 years on after decimilization was introduced to a gullible populace.

No shame there!

Is it not "Decimalisation " sorry had to add to the "pedantry" - unless I'm wrong in which case sorry thats what I get for trying to be smart :) - actually I must admit I say 1 pence although as stated it is 1 penny

Starboy; pedantry is part and parcel of forum life. It has to be expected by everyone who chooses to come on here.

I spell 'decimilization' with a 'Z' not because it's accurate, but because it looks 'sexier' on the written cyberpage.

I actually have tried going over my words and spellings with a toothcomb, but it made for very boring writing [and probably reading for others].

I much prefer keeping my posts spontaneous, even if they're chockablock with spelling errors, minor inconsistencies, etc. It's all about retaining your individuality, in my view........I'd rather come over as being enthusiastic about a subject , even if this is at the expense of absolute accuracy.

I don't want to be known as an anorak, just amassing facts and correct terminology, just for the sake of it.....

I'm on here purely because of my PASSION for some aspects of comics production, and certainly not for the 'trainspotting' side of things.......if you are passionate you will probably write quickly, hence minor mistakes, etc.

But I can't be bothered checking up on some facts sometimes; if I don't know a subject 'by heart' then I obviously can't be all that interested in it in the first place.

Yeah that's why I put "one pence" instead of "one penny".

Seriously though, thanks for the correction Steve. My mistake.
