Feature on Orion constellation in a UK annual

Post by abjack »

Hi all,

I managed to track down a long-lost Fantastic Four book on this forum a couple of years back, and wondering if this other niggly thing will ring any bells with anyone --

I have a vivid memory of seeing a 2-page feature on the constellation of Orion in (I *think*) a UK annual sometime between 1971 and 1974, which featured Orion himself, his faithful dog (a wolfhound), and Diana the huntress of the Moon, with a bit about the legend, etc.

Thing is, I can't figure out which album it would have been in, in order to tack it down again on eBay. Having recently bought a copy of the 1971 Look 'n' Learn annual I don't think it was that sort of publication ... it was more like a feature spread in some sort of comics annual, but the Dandy didn't have such features, and the Topper 1972 book has some 2-page features but not this particular one.

Any clues? Thanks!

Any chance it could be a girl's annual?

Yep, it's possible ... my sister's 2 years younger, so it might have been one of hers ...

I thought it sounded astrologish XD. Or also Doctor Who annuals of that era have a lot of spacey stuff in them.

It wasn't an astrology feature .. more like a general knowledge piece on Greek myth.

I agree with fenleymike - that's exactly the sort of thing that used to turn up in the girls' annuals.

Well remembered Abjack! I've tried to upload and image of this but the technologies not working this morning. You need to search for the Sparky 1973 annual.

It's part of a series called Tales Men Tell. Also included are The Loch Ness Monster, Gelert the faithful hound and Gog and Magog

Yes!!

That's it -- cos I remember all those other features as well.

I knew this forum would come up trumps -- thanks Grumpy, much appreciated, now to eBay.
