That's the second time Beefy's reappeared since the Dandy revamp (the other of course being the Bananaman strip which Beano reprinted a couple of weeks ago). And with Greedy Pigg's appearance in Kid Cops last year, this bodes well for next year's 75th birthday celebrations. It seems that unlike in the Xtreme era, where the 70th birthday got virtually ignored, they now embrace their history, but don't rely on it. They're happy to use past characters when the storyline calls for it (need a bully, use Beefy, need a greedy teacher, Pigg was perfect for that).

Yes, that was my reasoning - the story called for a bully, and as I was trying to think of names for a bully I suddenly thought 'waitaminute! This is The Dandy! They've ALREADY got a famous bully!' so popped Bully Beef in!

Glad people enjoyed seeing him again!

There's no editorial mandate to resurrect old characters, although the editors are happy for us to bring them back where appropriate.

Why not? They already had Dan vs Dennis. I'm sure many other match-ups are possible.

I won't be able to read it until tomorrow, but I think the clue is the fact that it's in the Dandy...

Given the lead-in time, I assume that it's Alan rather than Mike v. Craig?

It's Mike. And they used both editors' full names! First time the comics have identified their editors within one of the comics, isn't it? (although the Beano Annual page on the Beano website does name Alan Digby, I'm sure both Alan and Euan Kerr were only ever identified as "The editor" when their photos were used in The Beano. And while the inside back cover always names six members of Dandy staff, it doesn't identify Craig as the editor, nor use his surname)

Interesting. Since Mike is also Craig's boss, it could go either way :)

He's busy. Seems Mike is doing three jobs then. After all, he doesn't just edit Beano weekly, but Max too.

EDIT: Hey, I just noticed something. There's no issue number on the cover of this week's issue (it is on page 3 though). Where it should've been, they've put Saturday's date. And of course, the recall date (Tuesday) is on there too. Make up your minds...
