It's not really fair on those who are waiting until Wednesday to tell them what is happening in individual strips, beyond teasers. That said, everyone should subscribe as it's much cheaper!

In saying that, I don't see any harm in discussing a comic layout in advance since it doesn't involve giving any actual spoilers on comic or filler content.

Did splitting the Kids annoy me? Yes.

Did I think it was a novel approach? Yes. I didn't like it, but it was worth a try - I would rather have had the Kids on pages 14-15 or 22-23, to avoid the back of the poster.

If you think we should allow discussion between the Saturday and Tuesday, open a thread in the Suggestions forum and see what people think. It's a very negotiable rule.

Having bought the issue I do think it was a shame that the Bash Street Kids were split. It seemed particularly bad to me because the story reads across the spread (rather than down the page as with all the other two-page strips bar The Numskulls), making it awkward to read without removing the pull-out - which of course I didn't pull out because it had the Biffo strip on it. I hope this doesn't become the pattern from now on, I can't really see any advance in doing this.

On a brighter note, the actual comic was good this week. Meebo and Zuky were a particular highlight for me - I loved the Pythonesque humour with the man from the Ministry of Silly Things. Great work there by Laura and the writer.

In this weeks beano they are advertising issue 16 of Dennis and Gnasher Puzzles a comic (well puzzle book but it's still a Beano spinoff) which before I had never heard of. Has this been advertised before I do tend to skim over the puzzle pages. But it's good to see some new Beano spin-off publications even if there only puzzle books seeing as how other spinoffs such as the Fun Sizes have now stopped.

Dennis and Gnasher Puzzles isn't normally advertised in the comics, because it's not a comic (it reuses panels from Dennis and Gnasher strips out of context). As the title suggests, it's a monthly puzzle magazine, which started last year (2010) and I think is published by DCT's subsidiary, Puzzler. It actually started a couple of months prior to Classics and the Fun-Sizes biting the dust.

I open this week's Beano, and while quickly flicking through its contents (before reading it more thoroughly), I notice above The Numskulls story this:

'This story was written by Beano reader Harry Rickard!'

I just wanted to say I thought your Numskulls story was really good Harry, it was a funny idea and I liked how Edd was being really childish at the start and the end. Barry Glennard did a good job on the artwork too - he's received stick in the past but I've actually always liked his style.

Overall it was an excellent start to 2012 for the Beano. I was pleased to see the return of Super School, although in some ways it has been overshadowed by the surprise news of Bananaman joining the Beano cast from next week. I also liked Minnie the Minx and Ball Boy, while the Retro Beano Billy Whizz reprint was excellent - I particularly liked the frame where Billy was running on air above the sea with multiple legs.

Bananaman used to appear in the early beano comic libraries before nutty joined the dandy.lets hope steve bright returns to drawing it

Super School returned this week BECAUSE Bananaman is joining the Beano - it was drawn especially.

the front cover of the Beano has changed and logo..
looks more 80's..
wasn't sure about Billy on the O But get it now has its in the story..

Retro Beano usually gives way to Wenlock and Mandeville, so it might be back next week.

Guess they forgot to update it. At least the comic itself has the right year, unlike the Dandy, which says 2011 on page 35, and has done on all three 2012 issues.

Quick glance the logo continues this time with Danny on a bike riding over it..

a retro Roger the Dodger and a nice 2 page posterish of minnie and teacher..love these types..
also a competition winner has drawn a page...now to read it..

Is that a new strip in this week's Beano or is it just a one-off. It was about a "magical" mobile phone reminds me of one of those old 60's and earlier strips which often involved a boy and some sort of magic object eg Sammy's Super Rubber, Hooky's Bust 'em Book. It especially reminds me of Hooky's Bust 'em Book which i read in an old Beano annual.

Also at Tesco in Bedford they on the magazine section they have a kid's zone sub-section with a big picture on the top showing loads of Beano characters and featuring that Dennis and Gnasher logo as seen on CBBC. They also sell the Dandy so I went there for that as i'm subscribed to the Beano and just read the Dandy irregularly.

I've seen that Kids Zone branding. The banners on the shelf edges feature Dennis, Ball Boy, Desperate Dan, and Bananaman.
