New Beano Comic!

Post by Spencer »

Yup, you read that correctly.

Today I bought the latest (and last) issue of Beanomax (no.79) but the good news is that on July 24th, issue one of the 'Dennis the Menace Megazine" will be on sale. If it's good enough for Judge Dredd, I guess it's good enough for Dennis!!

It will have a free "32 page comic from Dennis's comic stash" as well...

I wonder what that will entail?

Sounds exciting!

Aw, always sad to see a comic go, even one I don't read (though I suppose it's probably more of a rebranding than a closure). The only copy of Beano MAX I ever bought was the first - might also buy the last to go along with it.

Aha! That explains why clicking on the link to the BeanoMAX at Beano.com, the link crashes.

That means, I'll probably get a refund for No. 80 I bought from Newsstand. As soon as it goes on sale, I'll buy a copy.

It was sad yet expected. Shame they never reached their hundredth issue though.

I don't think it's that sad really. BeanoMax had become a rather tired comic - the main strip was always good but, aside from good old Wallace & Gromit, the rest of the comic was predominantly 'fun features', posters and a couple of reprints.

Now, what the 'Megazine' will bring we don't really know yet but there will be at least 32 pages of comic strip with each issue. I guess it will be reprint as it will be from 'Dennis' comic stash' but I am curious as to what this may involve?

Could it be whole vintage issues reproduced? (And maybe even more than just Beano's?)... Or is it more likely to be the Beano Superstars type comics reprinted?

Could it even be a kind of mini-Classics from the Comics compilation?

What are others thoughts / guesses?

The new comic's full name is actually the rather unwieldy 100% Official Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Megazine.

When I read your first post, I thought of it as an extra part for the first issue, with reprints of old Dennis strips. However, now you have mentioned it is a part of each issue, I would hope to see it as the 'Classics from the Comics'-style compilation, showcasing many different comics and characters.
Either way, I think I will be giving this a chance. I, personally, was never a big fan of BeanoMax, so am not too sad to see it go and welcome a chance for a new comic.

I predict reprints from The Beano Superstars, which happened to be 32 pages. Perhaps reduced to half size.

Duh! Just realised that BeanoMAX is going. :headbash:

Just popping out to get the last issue and am looking forward to getting the first issue of the new Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Megazine.

Hmmm. "Megazine". Not sure how Judge Dredd will think of that. ;)
