Re: What comics did you buy today?
Today I purchased three Nutty comics from a bookshop - #18, #160 and #161. This was my first taste of Nutty and I was disappointed by how unoriginal the characters seemed to be - so many of them were just reused ideas. Bananaman and perhaps The Wild Rovers were the only exceptions.
I also got two Buster comics. One was the issue before the merge with Jackpot so the centre spread was advertising the merge but although I searched through the boxes I couldn't find the merging issue. I'm sure I'll get it one day.
I also got Buster dated 12th January 1980. Nothing special with this issue in particular but I don't have many Busters from the late 70's - early 80's so it's nice to read. I found Martin Baxendale's Pete's Pets strip interesting because the illustrations were in a completely different style to what I've normally seen him draw. I'd scanned the strip hoping to share it but I keep seeing the message that it's too big and I can't make it small enough to upload. Ah well...

Managed to win a few Buster Summer Specials on ebay, got 74, 81, Buster & Monster Fun 81 & 83 and the one I'm most looking forward to is the first Buster from 69.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
In the last week, I got the Giant Holiday (Black Axe, Master of the Moors etc) and Fantasy (Steel Claw, Janus Stark etc) Comic Albums, plus the Big Adventure Book (Hook Jaw, Steel Claw etc). Around a pound each. Not bad for so many pages.

I cannot believe it's March already. The year is certainly going fast.
I bought 13 issues of 1969 Valiants and have been reading them this morning. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
A number of purchases while I have been away on holidays.
I picked up the Dandy Book 1992 at a bookshop in Gosford, I have a half year of Dandy issues (January to June 1968) a little over a dozen issues of Cracker, and bought via Newstand, the 8th, 15th and 22nd February issues of the Beano and the February 2014 issue of the 100% Official Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Megazine.
As well as that, an item I bought before I went on holidays, Eagle Volume 17, No. 8 (19/2/1966) is also here. I'm going to be very busy updating my website.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I recently won two Pink `Sparky Flyers` thise four page pink sheets which advertise new `Fun Pals` & free gifts when comics have such promotions. Sparky had nine `promotions` circa 1965-74 (Not counting initial launch) these two `pinks` are for the September 1966 and February 1969 free gift/ fun pal promotions!
I already had both-but my old copies a bit tatty-particulary the 1966 one! So two better copies are fine! Cost less that £5.00 too!
The 1969 `flier` was drawn by Bill Ritchie which means he was the first artist to draw the `I. Spy` character, a fact that only has relevance to devout fans of this character such as Rab Smith and I! Thought i'd mention it though!
I'm still seeking Sparky Pink Flyers for March 1966, January 1970 and August 1974!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
In the last couple of weeks I've started to re-collect the annuals I owned as a kid in the early 70s, before I discovered Marvel comics and unfortunately felt the urge to carry out a purge:
Sparky 1973
Beano 1971, 1972, 1973
Topper 1972
Beezer 1973
Valiant 1973
Victor 1972, 1973
Star Trek 1973
My search continues, but what a blast it's been to turn over the pages and re-discover favourite stories and images which had been lost in the mists of time - if only I had been aware that I would need to spend a small fortune to re-purchase these cherished childhood memories I might not have been so rash to dispose of my original collection!

Bigd-ek A lot of 1970s Sparky book come on E.Bay-many at very good prices!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Hi Alan, Yes I bought the Sparky 1973 annual off e-bay; admittedly it wasn't cheap (£6 + £3 P&P) but I wanted a mint copy and it looks almost as good as my original copy when I received it from Santa
on Christmas morning, 1972.
It's a cracking read with the highlights being the various 2 page spreads featuring "Tales Men Tell" (stunning artwork of Loch Ness Monster, Yeti, etc) and a superb "I Spy" strip where he absolutely wrecks a hotel housing foreign agents up to no good!
