Yesterday at the Stirling mart, a small pile of Charlton westerns, which, judging by the ever so slight "aroma", might have been in someone's garage for a while. However, interior art from Pat Boyette; Sanho Kim; PAM; John Severin, makes for a worthwhile purchase. Also, there were lots of small press/indie offers on various tables and Scott vs Zombies by Alan Grant and Robin Smith, took my fancy. The title was issued through Artlink:-

I also bought a copy of #10 of Team Girl Comic:-

Not my usual reading but a worthwhile, enjoyable and informative experience.
I also splashed out on the Hawkeye H/B album when I was in Banjaxx Comics, just round the corner from the mart.

Not a comic, but I have just bought a page of art from a rather nice, softly spoken West Coast gentleman.
America2-unfinished page.jpg
The reason that I am quietly chuffed about it is that both of us will enjoy it and it is the last self-painted page of America. After this page, Colin had to hand over colouring duties to others due to the press of time.

There were dozens of stalls at the ephemera fair on Sunday and I picked up the following:
The Dreadnought vol. 3 no. 34 18.1.1913
The New Boys World vol 3 no. 35 10.11.1906
The Wizard 611 18.8.1934
The Triumph vol. 1 no. 19 21.2.1921 and vol. 27 no. 691 15.1.1938
The Marvel no. 126 23.6.1906
The Empire Library vol. 1 no. 12 7.5.1910
The Halfpenny Marvel no. 44 4.9.1894
Adventure no. 126 9.2.1924
The Sports Library no. 295 8.5.1915
Chums no. 1092 16.8.1913

All the above were £2 each

Also picked up three copies of Chums from the early 1920s with full colour covers - they each had £3.50 stickers on them which I thought was a fair price as they were in near perfect condition so imagine my joy when the stallholder said everything on the stall was £1 each. One of them was a Christmas number and all three are squarebound with around 80 pages. His stall was piled high with hundreds of copies of Punch.

Finally I got a Forget-Me-Not women's magazine from 1905 for a fiver and a Film Weekly 1938 Christmas number for £5 and a Film Weekly from 1937 for £3.

The stall I got the Hotspurs from last month had a pile of over a hundred Rovers from around 1971/72 - he wanted £70 for the lot - I might get them next time but they are not really my bag - is anyone else interested in them? I could pick them up on someone's behalf. The pile may include the last ever issue. Although there is the danger I will not want to let them go once I have them.

Three comics in once envelope from the postman this morning:

Bugs and Drugs #6
Knockabout Comics #1
Firkin #1

"Well pleased" with this lot - never seen an issue of Bugs & Drugs before and I'm impressed so far, lots of "early" Hunt Emerson in the Knockabout one (and more), and the Firkin one doesn't have anything I recognise from the two "collected" Firkin books... Good start to the day indeed!

just purchased a small bundle of Battle comics from 1978 and Hotspur 1978 for a handsome price of about £55 - altogether around 34 issues combined. If one were to buy said issues individually, it would cost a lot more. can't complain :)

As a side note, I did manage to buy 4 Target comics from 1978 (the ones that feature Kojak and Charlie's Angels) for a very cheap price. These comics are usually rare and command a high price - look on ebay now and no. 7 is going for £30  No. 1 is going for a tenner but without the free gift at the moment. I can't understand it; this comic lasted about 6 months in 1978 and merged with TV Comic eventually - how does it command such a high price? Compare these issues to Starlord from the same year - it doesn't make sense.

A nice big box arrived yesterday morning, which MORE than made up for missing out on three other auctions...

The box contained (or contains, as they're still in there for the moment):

-Gutted #1-6 and 9, plus the "sample" issue
-Gutter #1, 3-6, and 8-12
-Ziggy #1-20
-Gas, Vol.2, #1-12 and the Xmas Special
-Brain Damage, Vol.2, #1-12
-Brain Damage, Vol.3, #1-4
-Brain Damage 1990 Annual

Should keep me going for a while...

It arrived today and I am scared to open it. Actually, to be honest, it is for Karen, so I waiting for her to come down and we will open it together.

Yeah, but they're still there. They only command a high price if someone buys them. I'm struggling to find a Target comic on eBay that's sold.

Picked up Essentials collection Captain Marvel volume 2 from bookshop in Greenwich for a fiver - it features Jim Starlin's time on the strip and reprints Iron Man 55 featuring the first appearance of Thanos.

I bought a little batch of them a few weeks ago on ebay including 1-3. I really like them despite the obvious dreadful faults the series has. I find them charming.

that's so true, Japandroid; they are quite dreadful and, yet, retain something charming. The Charlie's Angels colour strip is very lurid, and the comic only contained 20 pages. I bought issues 2,6,9 for a fiver the other week and, for some reason, would wish to collect the whole short series. Maybe it has something to do with all the tv shows I viewed as a child. But I wouldn't pay £30 for any issue.

I was unaware that those two things existed!

Are they new? I'm off investigating now.
