if it's any help, bad bri, Zenith book three takes place (from memory) approximately between progs 625 - 660: it was split into two separate runs. Quite an epic that was really fast paced and gritty. Many deaths involved, as well. It ran at the same time as Slaine's Horned God series, and I much preferred Zenith.

Absolutely loved Zenith Book 3. GM was at the height of his powers around that period.

I vaguely recall that as "Zenith and some old characters from other comics stand around a lot", with the most obvious twist ending imaginable.

I've liked a lot of Grant's work but Zenith never appealed to me. Considering what he did to the classic Fleetway characters in that story the thing that sprang to my mind was 'Grant Morrison borrows someone's toys and breaks them'. Not cool.

In Buster, there was Tony Broke & Ivor Lott and Penny Less & Milly O'Nair strip merger.

Then in 2000AD there were some:

Dedd himself had a few. Giant from Harlem Heroes/Inferno whose son (and then grandson) became a Judge. Flesh's Old-One Eye's son Satannus showing up in both Dredd and Nemesis the Warlock. ABC Warriors being in Nemesis the Warlock.

Then there's the Hammerstein robot appearing in Savage.

I can't remember the strip's name (was it Universal Solder?) but Tim Kelly (Valiant's Kelly Eye) appeared in it.

Then you had the Judge Dredd/Rogue Trooper crossover strip in a special issue.

Of course then you have Dredd's cover over strips with DC's Batman.

Talking of Batman, in the 60s TV series, there was a cross over with the Green Hornet.

Why would they rename Dan Dare seeing as he was a 2000ad star in his own right.

The Dan Dare Corp. had already bought over the rights to DD, hence why no Collected Dan Dare from 2000AD was released. I actually tried to license that from the DDC (plus finish the Cosmic Claw or whatever it was called) but they firstly had no idea DD was ever in 2000AD, then they changed their agent to maximise their revenue and reach, who promptly never bothered to reply to anything I sent. Must have really maximised that stream

I've liked a lot of Grant's work but Zenith never appealed to me. Considering what he did to the classic Fleetway characters in that story the thing that sprang to my mind was 'Grant Morrison borrows someone's toys and breaks them'. Not cool.

That's one way of looking at it. Another might be that the toys belonged to the copyright owners, who hired Grant Morrison to forge a series that was enjoyed by many readers. I certainly got all the more out of Zenith for the nods to characters who had otherwise long bitten the dust.

Harking back to Zenith, I've just read in the latest edition of 2000 ad that now all four books of Zenith are repackaged and available to buy individually. Not a great surprise; only that, before now, due to issues with Grant Morrison - Zenith Book Four has never been available in collected form. Wow! But then, long ago, I remember Marvel couldn't reprint Captain Britain's grand opus era from early-mid eighties due to a fall out with Alan Moore. Then, Alan acquiesced in the mid-nineties and hey presto! There's always a way forward... eventually. Now... if only Alan could see a way forward for Halo Jones Book Four... ah, perhaps a bridge too far, me thinks.
