British comics in Greek magazines
Re: British comics in Greek magazines
I'm pretty sure the first one is 'The 10,000 Disasters of Dort' which originally appeared in Lion during 1968. The art was shared between Jose Gonzalez (who drew the first episodes) and Jose Ortiz (who drew the final ones). The script was written by Michael Butterworth.

I'm afraid it's not. The third one is Sammy Brewster's Ski Board Squad from Buster, drawn by Joe Colquhoun, which ran from 1973 to 1976.Raven wrote:

Yes, you're right - was writing in haste, just took a quick look while my brain was doing something else, and the bloke in glasses reminded me of the Skid Kids inventor character, and the two Skids got confused. The Skid Kids was, of course, about a racing driver! My first thought was Sammy Brewster... which I know really well, and am a fan of J.C.'s art for!
Re: British comics in Greek magazines
Hmmm... Ukcomics.wikia does indeed attribute the strip to Mike White, so I 'll insert that.Raven wrote: Whiz-Along Wheeler from Valiant, 1975. But is it Mike White "ghosting" Mike Western?
Any thoughts on who the writer might be?

Whiz-along Wheeler looks like Mike Western to me. Look at the bear in the final panel - pure Western. Some of the instalments look like another hand could perhaps be involved in the inking.

It's very Western-esque indeed, but I've seen it credited to Mike White in a few places, including here: http://illustrationartgallery.blogspot. ... white.htmlRobbie Moubert wrote:Whiz-along Wheeler looks like Mike Western to me. That particular instalment is actually from the 28th December 1974 issue of Valiant and Lion. Quite a few aspects of the original art, which is more detailed, are cut off. The UK version is much superior.
Re: British comics in Greek magazines
After having helped me with another set of comic strips from the magazine Vavoura (thank you for that!), and after having helped my friend Ramirez with his scans from the magazine Agori, it's time for me to upload 3 more pages, this time from the magazine Fasolas.
I believe that the first 2 pages wouldn't be very difficult for you. Regarding the 3rd one, I'm not sure if it's a british or a spanish comic... have you seen that before? The greek title was "Yolanda".

Re: British comics in Greek magazines
The second looks very much like Graham Allen's Trouble Shooter from Score 'n' Roar, except his stripes were horizontal!

Yes, definitely.Raven wrote:The second looks very much like Graham Allen's Trouble Shooter from Score 'n' Roar, except his stripes were horizontal!
The third one is a Spanish strip by Nebot (signed in one panel). Her name was Yolande in a UK reprint in a book called My Cartoon Annual in 1984. I think that was the Spanish name too. Hopefully RuthB will be able to expand on that one.

Re: British comics in Greek magazines
Hopefully you 'll be able to tell which strip is that Super Gnat page that Ion posted above. Until then, I have a couple of questions of my own.
Name, creators and magazine.
Name, creators and magazine. From Battle or Warlord maybe?
I believe this is by Ron Turner, but I don 't have a name, writer and magazine. Its greek title is Tigers if it helps...

Re: British comics in Greek magazines
That Prisoner of War one is bugging me. It's not from Warlord. All the stories that have featured on this thread (which I am loving) so far are all from the comic masters in Kings Reach Tower so these are Fleetway stories. The good thing about that is that it narrows down the comics to look through.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
Re: British comics in Greek magazines
The third one is The Tigers, from Tiger and Jag, 1971-74.
Re: British comics in Greek magazines
So its name was Tigers after all. I wasn 't sure, because having googled many times Ron Turner and the Tiger comic, not a single mention was given to this particular strip. And it was a long one too, not something that ended after just a few episodes.
Does the first picture on my previous post ring a bell? Its greek title is The little pioneer. I 'll add its second page in case it 's helpful.
And I hope that p.o.w. strip will click to you, colcool007, and recognise it. Its greek title is Motorcyclist typhoon (or tornado might be more accurate)...

You should have tried the Search engine of this forum, as there's a thread about Tiger where The Tigers are discussed!ramirez wrote:So its name was Tigers after all. Re: British comics in Greek magazines
Raven and Lew, thank you so much for your help! Now I have 2 strips less to worry about...
Here is another set of comics, published in the greek magazine Vavoura! Any ideas on the titles and the artists? (the second must be from Nigel Edwards but what is the title?)
