Just "won" on eBay... 80+ issues of MAD Magazine, almost every issue from 1984 to 1990 plus all the annual Super Specials - this has made me indescribably happy somehow :D

I saw that. But as Falkirk's WH Smith is closing down, I'd struggle to buy it regularly. Also, knowing how quickly downhill DC goes, it's unfortunately, not worth a subscription.

Full set, 1-54 of Crunch, a comic I have little experience of but I've read a few favourable reviews so I look forward to them arriving. For less than £30 including delivery, it would have been rude not to try them!

Ah, so it was you that was the solo bid! :-) I am still missing a couple of issues in the 40s to once again have an entire run.

Yes, that's right and I'm not sure whether to ask the newsagent in Linlithgow to order it for me. As you say, DC stuff can become mediocre rather quickly. Same problem for Commando fans as there is now no outlet for them in F/K, L/Gow and the small towns/villages all around here.
Doctor Who comic I can pick up in the supermarkets but I fancied trying the new Arrow comic from Titan but same problem as with The Flash. Ah well!

Last week my mate Frank texted to say he needed a hobby. I suggested this new fad of adult colouring books. Yesterday in WH Smith i had a look at their colouring books and found they were all aimed at women. I then went into The Works and found this gem:

Image

it has over 100 gold and silver age covers. The trouble is, as you can see from the scans, is that the book is bound in such a way that the pages do not completely fold back. I'm wondering whether to colour it in or keep it just for the covers as they are in black and white. I could buy another copy. I then wondered what are the best tools to use. A colleague at work said she uses gel pens as pencils are too light and not radiant enough. What about felt tip pens would they bleed through? Here are some scans of the contents. Lots of "headlamp" covers from crime comics. And quite a few romance covers. The inside covers have colour repros of some of the covers.

Wow! Didn't realise that existed, ordering my copy now. Felt-tips would unfortunately bleed through unless the paper is really thick? I'll have a look at gel pens or maybe watercolour pencils. Colouring comics has always looked so much fun, its just a shame my end results don't look very artistic.

A few of the covers are not very well chosen as they are quite bare with a lot of single colour background. But as there are over 100 covers there is enough to get on with just a shame the binding doesn't allow the pages to lay flat. Getting into the inside border is not easy.

Day out in Formby this morning, got the 1981 Judge Dredd annual and the 2010 Beano Book...

Bargain of the day though - although it has nothing to do with comics - was the 17-VHS big massive box James Bond Collection for £4.50, all the films up to GoldenEye :D

On my daily trip to the dump I picked up 3 Oink! mags for 50p. Including a Christmas issue and one featuring a Back to the Future spoof.

A charity shop had three Eagle related books at £3.99p each that had been on the shelves for a few weeks.I had a slight passing interest but did not regard them as must buys.Today they had been dumped into the 3 for 99p box ànd so I bought them.

Eagle annual 1984
Eagle annual 1974
Dan Dare annual 1987

Went on to another charity shop where they had loads of books at 1/2 price and I wanted to spend but could find nothing of interest except a 1984 printed material price guide.Looking at the british comic section They had priced a Robin comic at 40p and some 50s comics at 75p.I would have bought this book but it had all black and white photos and no colour photos so I didn't bother.
On to another charity shop and got -

Prince of Persia Disney graphic novel for 50p

These follow a sunday carboot buy of

Disneytime annual 1991 for 10p

Not too excited about any of the purchases but price being the deciding factor in getting them.

Wow, I know I said in the didn't buy thread that charity shops should mark them down if they don't sell after a month, but they didn't need to reduce them by that much! £4 down to 33p? You got a bargain!

This is the usual practice for this particular shop, Of course if it is a book you definitely want you need to buy at the first price instead of waiting for it to land in the 3 for 99 box or you may miss out.

I got two copies for my birthday so allowing me to keep one as a b/w book while I can colour in the second.

Well, I took delivery of a unique Starblazer today. And that was issue 105 The Conquerors of Earth which was illustrated by the one and only Cam Kennedy.

And as of this evening, it is now an autographed Starblazer...
