Ray you have to reprint these index books and possibly update them to he end as i also want the beezer and topper books and would love to see books on whizzer and chips .roy of the rovers ,whoopee eagle.tiger etc.im sure quite a few on this forum would love to see another printing of these valuable and insightful refernce books.

Yes, these are on my hit-list, along with the 1978 Baxendale book.

The Beano and Dandy weekly comics are covered really well in the two lavish D C T tomes dedicated to them; also, an unpublished hyper-detailed paper manuscript on SPARKY, running into hundreds of pages, by Alan Smith is in my proud possession.
Pity there are no 'proper' published books on the IPC funnies, although there are some great dedicated websites like Niblets' CHEEKY one.

Thanks for your kind words bri although I have to point out that Steve Holland was my co-conspirator on the Buster Index. All these were published twenty and more years ago and the propagation of comic knowledge has moved on since then so whether they would ever be updated in their original written format is perhaps unlikely.
It also puzzles me why there haven't been fuller indexes, outside of those in my 'remit', of some other popular titles too.

that's ok i cant wait to read it ray and i and i'm sure many others on here would love to see now completed fuller index's on all of the defunct titles maybe a massive coffee table book on all the ipc /dct humour titles and a separate one for the action, boys and girls titles. maybe go the crowdfunding or whatever they call it and we could all put some money in for you to update and reprint said indexes .

Hiya Bri:

I prefer paper reference material and I intend scanning all the pages on SPARKY Alan done into a blog: it took him about 5 years to write [on-and-off] so it's the least I can do!

I agree entirely, Bri. I printed off Alan's research work as soon as he provided the material, and although I have put them on one side only of A4, the pile is roughly equivalent to a ream.

yes all that hard work deserves to be seen by a much wider audience and comic fans could come acroos it via a blog or web site.I also prefer paper reference material myself.

Brian! I sent copies of my `updated` Sparky File to Rab! The chapters are rather too large for attachments now! It comes (Including the `Free gift` chapter) to about 580 pages A4. What I couldn't send Rab were `ALL` colour photo pages it contains-just a few. The rest were B/W only! But if Rab cannot send it to you, I might be able to.

Its upgraded from the version posted here a few years ago, in that Ray/Kashgar, kindly posted data regarding many of the artists who drew the strips. I also modified some of my criticisms on sections as I felt they were a bit churlish. I decided that where there were stories/artwork that I felt needed criticism, then to try and explain `why` to the reader I took it on myself to criticize!

Hopefully, the `File` is more balanced now in its presentation!
A Face unclouded by thought.

Folks, if you want to transfer a large file, then there is a freebie called wetransfer. It allows you to transfer files up to 2Gb in size.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Alan's 'Sparky File' is a marvellous resource. Obviously a labour of love and much more than the simple index it would have been had I eventually gotten around to it.

Been to another bootie today very crowded and warm , picked up 20 commandos for £2 saw lots of 2000ad comics just walked past them all glossy cover issues , found a couple of stalls with American comics from £1 each mostly marvel and modern not what I collect. Lots of stalls selling records these were the most crowded along with lego and fake lego sellers stalls. This bootsale seems not to have too much rubbish or traders selling new goods , plus it's in a nice area and don't start until 10.
Also won a very nice mid 60s Jimmy Olsen comic for 99p on eBay

 Alan that would be great if one of you guys could it will prob make me want my last 500 issues i need even more  I just read rays buster index all the way through and that was fascinating and thought some of the stories lasted a longer than they actually did i need to try and get the topper and dandy ones etc. and ray is right with the comic knowledge we have now the buster one and the rest probably could easily double in size and go al the way to the end. Ii intend to go through all my copies and try and write down where all the reprint stories originally appeared,or what i can anyway giving the number of issues i have,as i am in the process of doing a page by page of whoopee at the mo and writing either a little synopsis or the quote at the top of each page as to what the story is about but i know they dropped that bit in the later years.it will prob take me years though then perhaps ill start on Whizzer and chips as i only need just over 100 of those

Sunday carboots .From first two boots bought various non comic books plus Hotspur annual 1977 for 50p.
Suprised when son took the car full of us to a third carboot.

early on bought hardback graphic novel Shakespeare 's OTHELLO (I'm not afraid of culture :D ) 50p
As I approached the final stalls there was a chap selling US comics in 5 boxes which he had separated into DC ,,MARVEL, INDEPENDANT etc and all were neatly bagged and boarded.
I mentioned my dislike for comics which ended ,to be continued, which I don't think he understood.
He said he bought comics in bulk and had 10,000 at home which made me think he was more interested in buying and selling than reading them.
Bought the following from him---
GOLD KEY DAGAR THE INVINCIBLE 1974 £1
MARVEL KA-ZAR 1974 £1
MARVEL TOMB OF DARKNESS 1974 £1
IDW No1 UNCLE SCROOGE 2015 £1

At my age I enjoy reading the US comics as opposed to uk humour comics and since this site is about Uk comics I will be posting less , that is unless I find any UK comics of nostalgic value to me.

OK, Gentlemen, I am 'sold' on putting Alans' epic SPARKY FILE onto a dedicated blog, page by page------we have a SPARKY blog already in existance that badly needs updating [it actually gets some hots now and again] so I fully intend starting this very soon: I'm sure an active SPARKY site would generate reasonable viewing figures.

Alan has done all the heavy spadework: surely I can scan in a few pages at a time [It's also illustrated now].
