To be honest if we all boycotted them for a year it would not make much change to there sales they seem to have sold a lot in the past couple of months. Surprising with the prices they want 5 and half quid plus for one issue of battle?!?!?!?! for that price I want it to have never been opened and the pages unturnedPhoenix wrote:It might help to focus their attention on their very high prices if none of us bought anything from them for say a year.big bad bri wrote:it's our favourite P**s takers again hanah11zoe who don't even accept reasonable offers for their overpriced issues

What's a ridiculously high price to one person is just another purchase to someone else.
I remember Bob Monkhouse at a comic mart back in the late seventies, dressed in a completely brilliant white suit (inc white shoes) just picking out whatever he wanted from our boxes not even bothering to check prices then having his PA settle up when he was finished.
You don't like their prices then don't buy...
As mentioned previously my gripe with them is undisclosed damage that they leave up to the buyer to find and then have to go through the refund process. But again, that's how they operate - so be it.

Your Quite right. It just surprised me that so many sales when there are the same comics listed by others at lower prices. Is that what they aim for then? advising that there comics are in the best condition when they are not? That would explain some of the dodgy photos on some of there listings then.koollectablz wrote:What's a ridiculously high price to one person is just another purchase to someone else.

Shame. A few years ago, glastopopcult had some complete years of comics at very good prices. Funny you say that Lew as I was just thinking that I'm sure I'd bought from them in the past and I checked. In 2013 I bought a POW #1 with free gift and 2000AD #1 for less than £80 for the pair which were very fair prices at the time.Lew Stringer wrote:

Do we think these prices are pure greed or is it the cost of fees incorporated?Adam Eterno wrote:Funny you say that Lew as I was just thinking that I'm sure I'd bought from them in the past and I checked. Its a long time since I sold anything on ebay most of my comics for sale are listed elsewhere but have heard that the cost of listing has risen dramatically and they even charge you fees on postage costs.
Could these ridicules prices be the price of comic + fee's + postage cost (if stated free delivery)
or is it just greed and bad pricing?

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
I've bought from them as well - at 'normal' prices.
It strikes me as just them trying it on? Every so often relatively common items sell for enormous prices for no apparent reason, most times its a bit of auction fever - but it also does seem to be a thing that sellers try from time to time.
When I list, I absolutely try to get the very highest price I can - but within reason as i actually want to sell the items I list - and if they don't sell first time around I'll tend to bring the price down till it does.
i have no problem with sky high prices for rare items - my pet annoyance is sellers constantly listing common items very high, when there usually two or three copies of the same item running at the same time for far lower. That seems to happen with '76 Action #1 an awful lot. Its a very common comic that no one should really pay more than £30 for, in fine condition, and maybe £75-100 with the gift. Yet you'll regularly see people listing it for hundreds in very average condition without the gift.

Cerainly, Ebay and PayPal fees would be a contributing factor. Also, if selling comics is their profession (or makes up a significant part of income) then they'll also have income tax to pay on top of that (same as I do when I sell my artwork on eBay).

I have notice that with comics that there can be reams and reams of the same issue listed all at different price's starting from next to nothing to hundreds of pounds for the same comic. Sometime the condition is virtually the same.koollectablz wrote:I've bought from them as well - at 'normal' prices.

It is odd why some people think that and issue should be worth such and such eg) first appearance, death of characters, limited printing, variant covers etc etc.
An ex partner once brought me a copy of a DC comics Batman from the month I was born she paid for the most expense one she could find but when she got it she was not happy with the condition so returned it to the seller and brought one which was drastically cheaper and the condition was far better?
it seams like there are a lot of people out there that see comics whatever they are ,whatever the condition and think there is money here.

Didn't think of that! So it could be then that 20% up to 45% (depending on how well the seller is doing) could be to cover there tax bill?

I don't think it's anything as complicated as that. They're trying it on and if it doesn't work, they'll lower the price.CharleyBourne wrote:Didn't think of that! So it could be then that 20% up to 45% (depending on how well the seller is doing) could be to cover there tax bill?

I'm sure you're right but regarding tax it's not really complicated. If selling has become their main source of income they have to pay tax. Simple as that. Same as all of us do with our professions. Therefore it's bound to factor into the prices.Adam Eterno wrote:I don't think it's anything as complicated as that. I looked everywhere for A4 stiffened envelopes for sending comics to my ebay customers and finally found them in packs of five for £1 in The Range. The next day when I went to post them I noticed my local post office was selling the same envelopes for £2.50 - for a single envelope! Astonishing.

I bought packs of ten from Rymans but then discovered you can buy them in bulk on Amazon which works out cheaper.stevezodiac wrote:I looked everywhere for A4 stiffened envelopes for sending comics to my ebay customers and finally found them in packs of five for £1 in The Range.
