New Albion's Origins book

Could someone tell me about the characters and there powers...

I saw it in the shop and is first on my list to buy when money comes my way..

Its good that it includes a whole adventure.so if there is a spin off for one of the character
it can still be done with a book on another adventure...
I was concerned that the book would not be long enough on each character...
I'm glad that isn't the case..

So pleased to see these books....
Also had a sneeky read of the Steel Claw book in WHSmiths...
loved the pace of it and that the character was so different to any DC Showcase book....
an anti hero..a loveable rogue...

These books could do
Charlie Pierce.....Kid Chameleon.....Archie the robot...leopard of lime street...fish boy....Marney the fox...

Or humour books.......Ken Reid's IPC work.....there is so much...
what a great time for reprints......

I think Titan are just focusing on the most famous and superheroic (for want of a better term) of the IPC/DC stable for now.

I've reviewed Albion Origins here anyway if anyone's interested:

Thanks Lew you've wetted my appetite....thanks for the info....might buy it today...

I'm shocked at your statement that Leo Baxendale only drew ithe signed ones mostly n the Power comics....

It shows how good these ghost artists are...Leo and the program was wrong....
There are loads of Swots and Blots unsigned.....who drew these.....as they are very good.

I could be wrong but I always got the impression that for most of his Post Thomson career Baxendale tended to sign the sets he was particularly pleased with rather than religiously signing everything he did. Also, wasn't his work sometimes inked by other artists? Admittedly the early issues of Wham! carry his signature on almost every page, but perhaps at that stage he was concerned with showing that all the characters were his own creation (even though Odhams actually owned them!). It's notable that the first four covers don't carry any signature - even though they're clearly by Leo as well.

Many were drawn by Mike Lacey.

Good ol' Mike Lacey...he was a good comic artist...
I wonder if on my Leo Baxendale website I've put up a load of Mike Lacey
strips instead of Leo's..

Sweeny Toddler is another one......Leo hardly drew any...

Look forward to your review on who drew what in the power comics...

the 'ghost' artists...that really have fooled me.....

Sam's spook...
the pirates..
maybe these are not drawn by Leo either...

Leo Baxendale is a bit like Disney....

Couldn't find the book in Kingston so have to get it in Guildford another day...
wished I bought it yesterday in the first place in Guildford...

No, that's by Baxendale. He only signed his work for Odhams, and later IPC let him sign the Bedtime books.

The Swots and Blots that Lacey did were in the later Odhams issues (1968/69).

This page (above) is a good example of Baxendale's later style.
With the exception of Dave Sutherland on Bash Street, Tom Paterson on Sweeny Toddler and Mike Brown on Wiz War, etc, none of Baxendales's "ghosts" are EXACT mimics.
Mike Lacey, Jim Petrie and others drew IN THE STYLE of Baxendale but not EXACTLY THE SAME. I know it may seem a rather minor point, but it's worth making.
Today, for example, Lew, Tom and others (me included!) draw IN THE STYLE Baxendale pioneered, but are not EXACTLY like him.
If you compare a Mike Lacey "Swots and the Blots" from the front page of an Odhams SMASH of 1968 or early 1969, then one of the famous Baxendale double pagers from the IPC SMASH of late 1969 or 1970, the difference is quite obvious (he says hopefully!) Mike Lacey drew "in the Baxendale style" but did NOT "ghost" as an EXACT mimic.
However, one easy way of telling Bax from those who came after him is that he not only adds detail in backgrounds, silly sub-plots, etc, but his characters are all seriously crazy.
I've probably added to the confusion so I'll Leave it to Lew!

I've bought the book and gulped down Kelly's eye.....
which was great...real edge of your seat....
loved the fool hardiness of the guy as Lew mentioned.....
charging in even though the eye could fall out of his pocket or the string snap around his neck
so he could be killed without the jewel. He acted like a teenager
with no fear.......which suited the character perfectly...

I take it back from the vote I prefer seeing whole characters in order
rather than reprinting the whole comic..
you can buy the real comic for that
....
its nice to get sucked into an adventure without reading another
adventure or funny....

Now to read the next.......must get the Spider (never seen this in the shops!)
and Steel claw. Hope this will lead to more collected adventures
and inspire DC Thomson to try the same......
we Brits can write very good adventure stories as well...

Update

80,061 in Books it now says on Amazon...that is quite a jump in sales...

Update 2 it now say this...

Where did you get it from? I've seen it in neither specialist comics shop or regular bookshop, and Amazon says it isn't out till mid-October and only available as pre-order ... so is it out already in some places?

I had an advance review copy courtesy of IPC. Haven't seen it in bookshops yet.
