Help required about an artist called Hans G. Kresse

I have received an Email from John of the Netherlands who is doing some research into a Dutch artist named Hans G. Kresse. He has already received some information from Steve Holland but would like to know some more. Can anybody help him further? Here's his Email.

At the moment I am doing some research on the famous Dutch strip-cartoon artist Hans G. Kresse (1921-1992). In his archive I found some pages that were published in the comic Lion, somewhere before June 1956. On June 7th, 1956, Swan Features (his agent) wrote to Kresse about a commission for this magazine (30-52 page stories, two pages a week). Three samples from various strips were enclosed to show Kresse what kind of work was expected. As far as I know, this commission never came off.
Today I read your piece on the Lion comic with great interest. Now I hope you can help me answer the following questions.
Can you please tell me in which issue(s) the following strips were published (with bibliographical details: full title, author, artist, number(s) of issue(s), etc.)?
This is what I now know (courtesy of Steve Holland):
#Strip1 is Voyage of the Hoodoo Whaler (Lion #165-222, 16 April 1955 to 19 May 1956).
#Strip2 is Flying Saucer Over Africa (Lion #185-218, 3 Sept. 1955 to 21 April 1956).
#Strip3 is Sandy Dean (appeared in Lion for many years, 1952-65).
I hope you are able to help me fill in this gap in my research.

Haven't got the details to hand but I'm pretty certain that 'The Hoodoo Whaler' was drawn by Ted Kearon. Slightly less sure that Alan Philpott drew 'Flying Saucer over Africa, but I'll check on this. As to Sandy Dean I have a feeling that the name of the regular artist pre 1956 has never been ascertained although I think he worked for the Wooley art agency.

I've checked out the three strips in question and can confirm that 'Voyage of the Hoodoo Whaler' was drawn by Ted Kearon and scripted by Ted Cowan. As it turns out 'Flying Saucer over Africa' wasn't drawn by Alan Philpott but by T. Chorlton and written by Cliff Hooper, a pen-name of A.W. Henderson. Finally, at the period in question, 'Sandy Dean' was actually drawn by C. Wooley, who was in fact an artist and not an art agent as I misremembered yesterday, and was written by Reg Thomas under his pen-name Barry Nelson. Hope this answers all John's questions Al.
