THE SPIDER?

Can anybody shed some light on the Lion character The Spider? I understand that the artist for most of the run was Reg Bunn and the writer was Jerry Siegel (one of the creators of Superman)?

The Spider was indeed created by Jerry Siegel along with Geoff Kemp and Reg Bunn. Describing himself as the uncrowned king of crime, the Spider and his merry band, took to the stage in Lion 26 Jun '65 - and was later reprinted in Vulcan (along with the Steel Claw, Saber, Robot Archie and the Trigan Empire).

Along with superhuman strength, agility and intelligence (primarily through his costume equipment), he also possessed a vast array of weaponry, such as his web gun.

As he was always fighting super-villains, it soon became obvious he should become a crime-fighter rather than criminal. Although most of his gang departed at that point, still a couple of henchman stayed.

If you want to know what the Spider is up to now, pick up a copy of Jack Staff (was published by Dancing Elephant, now to be published by Image) where you will find an older version (plus some characters very familiar to the likes of Robot Archie & Janus Stark).
